What Are The Pros And Cons Of Mahindra XUV700 5-Seat Diesel?
The pros or advantages of Mahindra XUV700 5-seat diesel are:
- One of the few D-segment, 5-seat SUV with a diesel-manual and diesel-automatic powertrain options
- Diesel engine carries a nominal price premium over the comparable petrol variants
- The turbo diesel engine offers a lot of torque, especially with the AX3 and AX5 variants
- Reasonably-loaded base MX variant
- Tremendous road presence of a large SUV
- A long list of style-focused features like a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, dual-function LED DRLs and full-colour instrument cluster

The Mahindra XUV700 5-seat diesel has the following shortcomings or problems:
- Missing features even in top variant like auto AC, cruise control, auto-dimming inside mirror, telescopic steering, tyre pressure monitor, power driver seat and passive keyless entry
- Expensive AX3 variant doesn’t justify the price jump from the base MX variant and offers very poor value for money
- Upgrade cost of Rs. 1.80 to 1.91 lakh is expensive for the automatic transmission
- ADAS and 4-wheel drive not available with any 5-seat diesel variants
- Ground clearance and fuel efficiency figures aren’t available and may be below segment standards

The XUV700 diesel’s 5-seat variant cost between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 71,000 more than the petrol. Considering the nominal price gap between the petrol and engines, it’s fairly safe to buy the diesel engine over the petrol. Not only do Mahindra have tremendous expertise in making diesel engines, the AX3 and higher variants also get a different version of this engine, which makes 40 to 70Nm more torque than the XUV700 turbo petrol. So, you can expect better drivability and reliability with the XUV700 diesel. While the exact mileage figures aren’t available yet, with the diesel engine, you’ll definitely get better mileage and a longer tank range too.

Mahindra XUV700 5-Seat Diesel MX - Base Model Features
The base MX variant of the 2022 Mahindra XUV700 5-seat diesel is available with a 2.2L turbo diesel engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. This variant gets a less powerful version of the 2.2L turbo diesel engine, which makes 155PS of power and 360Nm of torque. The XUV700 5-seat MX diesel doesn’t get an automatic transmission and costs Rs. 13.96 lakh (ex-showroom) with the manual transmission.
The most notable features of the XUV700 5-seat MX base variant are:
- Rear disc brakes
- Halogen reflector headlamps
- LED tail lamps
- Flush door handles
- 8-inch touchscreen
- Wired Android Auto
- Steering-mounted controls
- 7-inch colour LCD instrument cluster
- All power windows
- 4x adjustable headrests
- Front armrest
- Tilt steering
- Rear AC vents
- Remote central locking
- Power mirrors
- Bottle holders in all doors
- USB ports in front and rear
- Height-adjustable driver seat
This variant doesn’t get a few important features like:
- Wheel covers
- Auto AC
- Rear centre armrest
- Rear camera
- Telescopic steering
- Apple Carplay
- Rear washer wiper
- Rear defogger
- LED DRLs
- LED or projector headlamps
The base MX variant has most of the must-have features for a budget-focused XUV700 buyer. Moreover, the higher AX3 variant is too expensive for the additional features it offers and has a poor value for money. You can add wheel covers, rear camera, LED fog lamps and aftermarket LED bulbs to improve the ownership experience with the MX variant.

Mahindra XUV700 5-Seat Diesel MX vs AX3 Variant - Price, Feature Comparison
The XUV700 5-seat diesel AX3 also gets the same 2.2L turbo diesel engine but with manual as well as 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. In the AX3 variant, this engine makes a higher 185PS of power and 420Nm of torque with the manual transmission. With the automatic, it makes the same 185PS of power but a slightly higher 450Nm of torque. With the manual transmission, this variant costs Rs. 16.0 lakh and with the automatic, it costs Rs. 17.91 lakh (ex-showroom). The AX3 diesel-manual costs Rs. 2.04 lakh more than MX diesel-manual. The AX3 diesel-automatic costs Rs. 1.91 lakh more than AX3 diesel-manual.
The AX3 variant gets the following features over the base MX variant:
- More powerful diesel engine (+30PS of power & +60Nm of torque)
- Halogen fog lamps
- Larger touchscreen
- Larger instrument cluster display
- Split 2nd row seats
- Wireless Android Auto
- Wireless Apple Carplay
- Alexa voice commands
- Rear defogger, washer and wiper
- Wheel covers
- LED DRLs

Mahindra XUV700 AX3 variant doesn’t have some important features like:
- LED headlamps
- Rear camera
- Auto AC
- Keyless entry with push-button start
- Tyre pressure sensor
- Rear armrest
- Cruise control
While it does add some must-have features, it is also very overpriced for the additional features. The lower MX variant also has a decent number of features to suffice for most budget-conscious buyers. However, if you find the MX variant too basic for your preferences, then you should make the jump straight to the AX5 trim as it offers far better value than the AX3.

The XUV700 5-seat diesel AX5 variant costs Rs. 17.44 lakh with the diesel-manual and Rs. 19.24 lakh with the diesel-automatic. The AX5 diesel-manual and diesel-automatic are Rs. 1.44 and Rs. 1.33 lakh more expensive than the comparable AX3 variants.
For this additional price, this variant adds the following notable features:
- LED reflector headlamps
- 2x curtain airbags
- Panoramic sunroof
- 17-inch machined alloy wheels
- Electronic stability control

Even this variant doesn’t get features like:
- Auto AC
- Rear armrest
- Tyre pressure sensors
- Keyless entry with push-button start/stop
- Cruise control
While it doesn’t add too many must-have features, the AX5 variant adds some high-value features to better justify the value-for-money than the lower AX3 variant. So, if you want these features and don’t want to settle for the basic MX variant, then the AX5 is a better value-for-money option than the AX3. With the automatic also, we’ll recommend buying the AX5 instead of the AX3 for a better overall ownership experience and value for money.

Which Variant Of The 2022 Mahindra XUV700 5-Seat Diesel Should You Buy?
The base MX variant seems to offer the best value for money and has most of the must-have features. So, it’s a great choice for budget buyers. You only need to spend a little bit on adding some aftermarket accessories and it’ll serve you well. The AX3 petrol-manual is very expensive for what it offers although most of its additional features are must-have. So, we don’t recommend the AX3 variant. While the top AX5 variant of the 5-seat XUV700 petrol adds mostly good-to-have features, it better justifies the asking price and offers better value than the AX3. For this reason alone, we’ll suggest AX3 buyers to consider the AX5.

For 5-seat Mahindra XUV700 petrol-automatic buyers, the AX5 seems to offer a much better value than the AX3. With the automatic as well, we’ll suggest getting the AX5 instead of the AX3.
What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Mahindra XUV700 5-Seat Diesel?
The XUV700 has 2 diesel engine options. Both have a displacement of 2.2L but the base MX variant gets the 155PS version, which makes 360Nm of torque while the higher variants get the 185PS version, which makes 420Nm of torque with the manual and 450Nm of torque with the automatic.
The specs of the 155PS version are good but the 185PS version blows everything else in its segment out of the water with its phenomenal torque output. The only thing worth noting is that Mahindra haven’t revealed the fuel efficiency figures of the XUV700 diesel, which leads us to expect modest numbers at best.

What Are The Dimensions Of The 2022 Mahindra XUV700 5-Seat?
In terms of dimensions, the XUV700 5-Seat diesel is the longest in its segment while being almost as wide as the Harrier and almost as tall as the Hector. It offers 18-inch wheels with the higher variant, which is better than the Hector’s top variant and 17-inch wheels on the lower variants, which is better than the Harrier’s lower variants.
Unfortunately, here as well, we don’t have the information about the XUV700 5-seater’s boot space and ground clearance. So, we can’t comment on those aspects. But, it’s safe to say that they are not worth bragging about, which is why they’re probably still a secret.
