Fuel Cost Calculator FAQs

How to calculate fuel cost?

Here are the steps to calculate the fuel cost for a day, month or year:

  1. Find out the cost of petrol, diesel or CNG fuel per unit in your city or locality. For the liquid fuels like petrol and diesel, you’ll need the cost of fuel per litre as it retails in volume. For CNG, which sells by weight, you’ll need the cost per kilogram.
  2. Second, you need the mileage or km you are expecting the car to deliver from one unit of fuel. For petrol or diesel cars, this value will come in kmpl (kilometres per litre of petrol/diesel) and for CNG vehicles, this value will be in kmpkg (kilometres per kilogram of CNG).
  3. Once you have the petrol, diesel or cng gas mileage and fuel cost, divide the fuel cost by mileage to get the cost of fuel per kilometer.
  4. Finally, multiply the cost per kilometer by the number of kilometres you intend to travel daily, monthly or in a year. This will give you the final cost you might incur for your daily, monthly or a year worth of travel with petrol, diesel or CNG car.

  2. Second, you need the fuel economy / mileage or km you are expecting the car to deliver from one unit of fuel. For petrol or diesel cars, this value will come in kmpl (kilometres per litre of petrol/diesel) and for CNG vehicles, this value will be in kmpkg (kilometres per kilogram of CNG).
  3. Once you have the mileage and fuel cost, divide the fuel cost by mileage to get the cost of fuel per kilometer.
  4. Finally, multiply the cost per kilometer by the number of kilometres you intend to cover during the trip. This will give you the final fuel cost you might incur for your road trip with your petrol, diesel or CNG car.

Does Tire Adjustment Help To Save Fuel?

Yes. Alignment and tyre balancing help cut down the vibrations, improve the ride and handling and cut down the fuel consumption. In alignment, we have caster, camber and toe. Most wheel alignment shops are equipped to adjust the camber and toe. Among these, the toe is the most important one to help with fuel cost saving.

Imagine if your car’s tyres are pointing in slightly different directions like our toes. With this setup, our cars’ tyres are trying to run in different directions but the axle holds them back. Each tyre is fighting the other one and trying to get it to move in its direction causes a lot of drag and also makes the tyres wear unevenly. This takes away some of the efficiencies from the engine. If the tyres are aligned correctly, then there’s less drag and it helps with fuel savings.

If your car suddenly started giving considerably poor fuel efficiency, then you should certainly get its alignment checked. If the alignment is the culprit, then it's a fairly simple and straightforward fix. It’s also common for tyres to run out of alignment if you happen to drive through a pothole at higher speed. One hit can easily throw the tyre out of alignment.
