What Are The Pros And Cons Of Renault Kwid Petrol?
The pros or advantages of Renault Kwid petrol are:
- B1-segment size with SUV styling for A-segment price; it also offers a best-in-class boot space with a fairly high 184mm ground clearance
- Double-barrel headlamps, LED DRLs, body-cladding, stylish wheel covers, 14-inch wheels and dual-tone exterior colour option give it an upmarket exterior appearance
- Notable features like power mirrors, all power windows, touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, day/night inside mirror and rear camera will ensure a well-rounded ownership experience
- Negligible premium of Rs. 10,000 for the 1.0L petrol engine over the 0.8L engine
- Small incremental asking price of only Rs. 45,000 for the automatic transmission
The Renault Kwid petrol has the following shortcomings or problems:
- Automatic transmission not available in the reasonably-loaded RXL (O) variant
- The knob style AMT shifter doesn't offer control over gear selection
- Missing features like adjustable headrests, split rear seatbacks and height-adjustable driver seat
- The dealer and service network is not as wide as that of Maruti Suzuki
- Fuel-efficiency figures are acceptable but lower than Maruti’s small cars
What Is The Price Of Renault Kwid Petrol Variants?
The Renault Kwid petrol is available with 2 petrol engines — a 0.8L normal petrol and a 1.0L normal petrol. The 0.8L petrol engine is available with a manual transmission in 2 variants costing Rs. 4.64 lakh and Rs. 4.89 lakh. The 1.0L petrol-manual is available in all 4 variants with a manual transmission with prices ranging between Rs. 4.74 lakh and Rs. 5.54 lakh. The 1.0L petrol-automatic is only available in the RXT and Climber variant with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 5.79 lakh and Rs. 5.99 lakh, respectively.
Renault charge a premium of Rs. 10,000 over the 0.8L engine for the 1.0L engine. The 5-speed AMT automatic costs Rs. 45,000 more than the comparable 1.0L petrol-manual variants.

The base RXL variant of the Renault Kwid is available with 0.8L petrol-manual for Rs. 4.64 lakh and it costs Rs. 4.74 lakh with the 1.0L petrol-manual powertrain. The notable standard features of the new Kwid’s RXL base model are:
- Tachometer
- All fixed headrests
- LED DRLs
- Double-barrel headlamps
- 14-inch steel wheels
- Digital instrument cluster
- Black door handles and outside mirrors
- Remote central locking
- Body-coloured bumpers
- Internally-adjustable outside mirror
- MID
We wish the Kwid’s base model also had features like:
- Day/night inside mirror

- Music system
Based on the features, we’ll strongly suggest you consider the higher RXL (O) variant for a better ownership experience.

Renault Kwid RXL Vs RXL (O) Variant - Price, Feature Comparison
The Kwid’s RXL (O) variant also gets the same 2 engine-transmission combinations. The RXL (O) 0.8L petrol-manual costs Rs. 4.89 lakh while the 1.0L petrol-manual costs Rs. 4.99 lakh. These prices are Rs. 24,500 higher than the RXL base model.

The RXL (O) variant of the Kwid gets the following additional notable features over the base RXL variant:
- Music system
- Bluetooth, FM, Aux and USB connectivity
- Front power windows
- Rear parcel tray
- Front speakers
- Full wheel covers
- LED tail lamps

|
Most of these features are must-have in our opinion. However, even this variant doesn’t get a day/night inside mirror and body-coloured outside mirrors and door handles. However, price-wise, this upgrade is worth the incremental asking price over the RXL trim. So, this variant earns our recommendation for Kwid buyers who don’t want to stretch their budget.
We’ll suggest skipping the 0.8L petrol engine and spending another Rs. 10,000 for the larger 1.0L petrol engine as it justifies the upgrade. The higher power and torque output will also offer better drivability in the city as well as on the highways.
Renault Kwid Petrol RXL (O) Vs RXT Variant - Price, Feature Comparison
The Kwid’s RXT variant is only available with the 1.0L petrol engine and has the option of AMT automatic as well. The RXT petrol-manual costs Rs. 5.34 lakh and the petrol-automatic costs Rs. 5.79 lakh. The RXT variant of the new Kwid costs Rs. 35,000 more than the RXL (O) 1.0L petrol-manual. The automatic transmission carries a premium of Rs. 45,000 over the RXT petrol-manual. The new Kwid’s RXT variant gets the following notable additional features over the RXL (O) trim:
- 8-inch touchscreen
- Android Auto and Apple Carplay
- Rear power windows
- Power mirrors
- Chrome on grille
- Rear camera
- Day/night inside mirror

The RXT variant adds many must-have features and some good-to-have style features for a reasonable incremental asking price over the lower variants. From a value as well as ownership experience perspective the RXT variant earns our top recommendation for Kwid manual as well as Kwid automatic buyers.

Renault Kwid Petrol RXT vs Climber Variant - Top Model Price, Feature Comparison
The Kwid’s Climber top model costs Rs. 5.54 lakh with the manual and Rs. 5.99 lakh with the automatic. This variant is Rs. 20,100 more expensive than the lower RXT variant. It gets the following notable additional features over the RXT trim:
- White outside mirrors
- Leather steering wheel
- Dual-tone exterior (optional)
- Headlamp and door cladding
- Dual-tone wheel covers
- Chrome inside door handles
- Roof rails

We think the only feature you might miss in this variant is steering-mounted controls. The top model almost justifies the price jump over the RXT variant but it mostly adds style-related features. So, we’ll leave it up to you to decide if you should upgrade to the Climber variant.

Which Variant Of The Renault Kwid Petrol Should You Buy?
For the Renault Kwid petrol-manual buyers, we’ll suggest skipping the 0.8L engine altogether. The 1.0L engine only carries a premium of Rs. 10,000, which more than justifies the jump to the larger engine considering the higher power and torque output. Moreover, the price gap between the 2 engines is also so small that it’ll mean nothing in terms of EMI.
With the 1.0L petrol-manual, the Kwid’s base variant is a little basic for a decent ownership experience. The RXL (O) offers better value and will drastically improve the ownership experience. So, even budget buyers should consider at least the RXL (O) variant of the Kwid.
However, if you can stretch your budget, then the RXT also offers good value and some must-have features. So, the RXT earns our top recommendation. The top Climber variant mostly adds cosmetic features, which are reasonably priced. So, you can buy it if you want these style features.

Just like the Kwid petrol-manual, among the petrol-automatic variants also, the RXT is our top recommendation. You can decide if you want to upgrade to the Climber variant for the design improvements.

The 1.0L petrol engine of the Kwid offers performance, which is on par with the segment rivals like the SPresso and Alto K10. We don’t yet have the mileage figures of the new Kwid model, but based on the older model’s mileage figures, we can say that it’s reasonably fuel efficient too. However, it can’t match the Maruti’s 1.0L dualjet engine’s fuel efficiency figures.

What Are The Dimensions Of The Renault Kwid?
The Kwid is larger than its rivals and has the best-in-class wheelbase and boot space. However, its fuel tank capacity of 28L is smaller than that of the Alto 800. The Kwid’s size technically makes it a B1-segment car. So, you’re getting a considerably larger car for an entry-level price, which is worth noting for buyers who want better road presence in a small budget.
