In this October 2022 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all D-segment cars in India. Where applicable, we’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all D-segment cars for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend.

D-Segment Cars October 2022 Car Sales - YoY Change

SUVs and MPVs continue to rule the D-segment. There are only 3 sedans in the D-segment, and only 1 pick-up.
The Mahindra Scorpio (Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic), Toyota Innova Crysta, Mahindra XUV700, Kia Carens and Hyundai Alcazar took the top 5 spots consecutively for several months.
Tata Harrier was pushed to the 6th spot by Hyundai Alcazar in October dispatch rankings.
In fact, the top 10 best selling D-segment cars are all SUVs or MPVs, with 3 out of the top 5 being SUVs
In October YoY sales comparison, the Mahindra Scorpio were the top-gaining mass-market cars, posting a 125% growth in sales.
Infact, Scorpio, XUV700, Alcazar, Fortuner and Marazzo are the only cars in the segment, out of 23 cars, with any significant YoY growth in October 2022 analysis.
Skoda Superb and Octavia D-segment sedans witnessed a 43% YoY decline in production numbers in the comparison analysis of October 2022.
MG and Mahindra don’t provide separate sales figures for their 5-seater and 7-seater D-segment SUVs

D-Segment Cars October 2022 Car Sales - MoM Change

In terms of MoM performance, the Scorpio sisters were the best-selling cars in the D-segment, but saw a decline of 22% in October over September
Toyota Innova Crysta saw the biggest MoM decline of 48.65% in October comparison analysis
Among the low-volume cars, the MG Gloster and Mahindra Alturas G4 were the top losers, with a fall of 42.44% and 37.5%, respectively
Kia failed to sell even a single unit of the Kia EV6 in September 2022, but sold 152 units in October of 2022.
