Hyundai Ioniq 5 India Launch In Late 2022

Hyundai Ioniq 5 India Launch In Late 2022 | V3Cars

Hyundai India have confirmed that the all-electric Ioniq 5 will arrive on our shores later this year. However, Hyundai are yet to reveal the battery and motor specs of the India-bound Ioniq 5. Globally, the Ioniq 5 is offered with two battery pack options with 2-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive configurations. It is worth noting that the Ioniq 5 has been crowned the ‘World Car Of The Year’ and wo many other prestigious awards.

The Ioniq 5 takes inspiration from Hyundai’s first production car, the Pony. It gets a squared-off front and rear profiles, making it look a lot smaller than it actually is. For instance, the length, width and wheelbase of the Ioniq 5 are more than that of the outgoing Tucson. Thanks to the e-GMP skateboard platform, the front and rear overhangs are short. The Ioniq 5 also gets a very unique design for the alloy wheels and flush-fitting door handles.

On the inside, the Ioniq 5 offers a generous amount of space. The movable centre console helps in better space management whereas the lack of a centre tunnel offers improves knee room for front passengers. Two connected LCD screens sit at the top half of the dashboard whereas the AC controls sit on the lower edge. In terms of features, the Ioniq 5 offers a digital instrument cluster, power-adjustable driver and co-passenger seats, a head-up display and Hyundai Bluelink connected car features.

As we stated earlier, the Ioniq 5 comes with two battery pack choices – a 58kWh and a larger 72.6kWh. Both battery packs can be specced with 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options. With the 72.6kWh and 2WD spec, the claimed range stands at 481km on a single charge. With the 72.6kWh and 4WD, the Ioniq 5 produces 305PS of power and 605Nm of peak torque. It remains to be seen whether Hyundai offer the lower-spec model to keep the price low or bring the top-spec Ioniq 5 with all the bells and whistles.

When launched, Hyundai Ioniq 5 will go up against the Kia EV6 and the recently-launched Volvo XC40 Recharge. Hyundai will offer the Ioniq 5 electric crossover as a CBU model in limited numbers. The upcoming Kona Electric, however, will be assembled in India with a high degree of localisation and we expect it to go on sale later this year.
