What Are The Pros And Cons Of Hyundai Venue Petrol?

The pros or advantages of Hyundai Venue are:

  • Choice of 3 engine-transmission combinations — 1.2L manual, 1.0L turbo auto-clutch manual, 1.0L turbo DCT automatic
  • Well-loaded SX variant now available with the 1.2L normal petrol engine for those who want it
  • Well-loaded for its class with notable features like keyless entry, cruise control, drive modes, paddle shifters, rear AC vents, auto AC, sunroof, power mirrors, engine start with remote, air purifier, ambient lighting, puddle lamps, 6 airbags, wireless phone charger and cold storage
  • Good power and torque output and respectable mileage figures with the turbo petrol engine

The Hyundai Venue petrol has the following shortcomings or problems:

  • Rear armrest is not available in any of the sub-Rs. 10.0 lakh variants
  • DCT type of automatics are yet to establish themselves as long-term reliable workhorses in Indian climatic and driving conditions
  • 1.2L S (O) and S (O) turbo-automatic offer poor value for money considering the features and performance for the incremental cost over the base variant

What Is The Price Of Hyundai Venue Petrol Variants?

The Hyundai Venue has a starting price of Rs. 7.53 lakh for the E1.2L petrol-manual and it goes up to Rs. 12.57 lakh for the SX (O) turbo petrol-automatic. The 1.2L normal petrol engine is available in 4 variants with prices ranging from Rs. 7.53 lakh to Rs. 10.70 lakh.

2022 Hyundai Venue Petrol E - Base Model Standard Features & Review

The new Venue facelift’s base E variant costs Rs. 7.53 lakh and is only available with the 1.2L normal petrol engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. It offers the following features as standard in the base model:

  • Day/night inside mirror
  • Front power windows
  • Adjustable front headrests
  • ISOFIX
  • Manual central locking
  • Manual AC
  • Chrome grille
  • Body-colour bumpers and door handles
  • 15-inch steel wheels with covers
  • Halogen reflector headlamps
  • USB-C charger
  • 12V power socket

The base variant doesn’t have several must-have features such as:

  • Music system
  • Rear power windows
  • Power mirrors
  • Remote central locking
  • Front armrest
  • Steering-mounted controls
  • MID
  • Rear defogger and washer wiper

So, we’ll suggest skipping the base model and buying one of the higher variants for a decent ownership experience.

The Hyundai Venue S variant with the 1.2L petrol-manual costs Rs. 8.70 lakh, which is around Rs. 1.17 lakh more than the base E variant. For the incremental cost, the S variant adds the following notable features over the E trim:

  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay
  • 4x speakers and 2x tweeters
  • Steering-mounted controls
  • Tyre pressure monitor
  • Remote central locking

  • Rear washer wiper
  • LED DRLs
  • LED or projector headlamps
  • Adjustable rear headrests
  • Rear parcel tray

Moreover, the S variant also only justifies about 75% of the incremental asking price over the lower E variant. However, the S variant's feature list includes most of the must-have features. So, we suggest that budget buyers compromise a bit on the value front and buy at least the S variant. Now, let’s see if the S (O) is worth buying.

2022 Hyundai Venue Petrol S vs S (O) Variant

Besides the 1.2L normal petrol-manual, the Hyundai Venue S (O) variant is also available with the 1.0L turbo petrol-auto clutch manual and dual-clutch automatic. The S (O) 1.2L manual costs Rs. 9.50 lakh, which is about Rs. 80,000 more than the lower S variant. The turbo petrol-ACMT costs another Rs. 50,000 and has an ex-showroom price of Rs. 10.0 lakh. For the turbo-petrol automatic, you’ll have to add another Rs. 1.0 lakh or so as it costs Rs. 10.97 lakh (ex-showroom).

  • Drive modes (with automatic only)
  • Paddle shifters (with automatic only)
  • Flat-bottom steering (with automatic only)
  • Leather-wrapped steering and gear lever (with automatic only)

Considering the asking price of this variant, we believe, it’s missing a few must-have features, such as:

  • Rear armrest
  • Auto AC
  • Split rear seatbacks

For the Venue 1.2L normal petrol buyers, the S (O) variant seems like an expensive upgrade as it doesn’t justify the incremental asking price. However, the turbo petrol engine with the auto-clutch only costs Rs. 50,000 or so more and justifies that cost with better performance alone. On top of that, it adds features such as cruise control and large, 16-inch style wheels. So, 1.2L S (O) buyers should instead buy the Venue with the turbo petrol engine. For turbo-ACMT buyers also, the S (O) is our top recommendation.

For turbo-petrol-automatic buyers, the S (O) is the most affordable option and costs more than Rs. 10.0 lakh (ex-showroom) while carrying around Rs. 1.0 lakh price premium over the turbo-manual powertrain. If you can stretch your budget, then you should consider buying the top variant.

2022 Hyundai Venue Petrol S (O) vs SX Variant

The price jump from Hyundai Venue S (O) to SX variant will cost you Rs. 1.19 lakh and this variant is only available with the 1.2L normal petrol-manual powertrain. The Venue S (O) costs Rs. 10.70 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 1.2L SX variant adds a decent number of features to add almost a top-variant-like feel. But if you’re ready to cross the Rs. 10.0 lakh ex-showroom price barrier, then you should instead consider stretching the budget a bit more and buying the Venue SX (O) turbo petrol. It’ll offer better driving experience, the convenience of an auto-clutch and more features for the extra cost. Or, you can compromise on features and settle for the S (O) turbo, which will cost less and offer better performance and the auto-clutch transmission.

2022 Hyundai Venue Turbo Petrol S (O) Vs SX (O) Turbo Variant - Top Model Features

The top-spec SX (O) variant is only available with turbo petrol-ACMT and DCT automatic powertrains. For buyers considering the turbo petrol engine, the jump from S (O) to SX (O) will cost another Rs. 1.60 to Rs. 1.92 lakh. The SX (O) petrol-auto-clutch manual and dual-clutch automatic cost Rs. 11.92 lakh and Rs. 12.57 lakh, respectively. The automatic carries a premium of Rs. 65,000 over the SX (O) auto-clutch version. Compared to the S (O) turbo variant, the top model adds the following notable features:

  • 2x side thorax and 2x curtain airbags
  • Rear armrest
  • Telematics
  • Power folding mirrors
  • Auto AC
  • Puddle lamps
  • Wireless phone charger
  • 60-40 split rear seatbacks

Since the SX (O) variant is only available with the turbo petrol engine, the Venue turbo buyers have to make a jump from the S (O) variant straight to the SX (O). The SX (O) variant adds enough features to justify the incremental cost from the lower S (O) turbo variant. So, from the value standpoint, it’s worth upgrading to the SX (O) trim. However, it’s more suited for automatic buyers, who have to make a smaller price jump than the Venue auto-clutch manual buyers. While SX (O) turbo is worth buying with the auto-clutch manual transmission, it’s our top recommendation for the Venue dual-clutch automatic transmission buyers.

Which Variant Of The Hyundai Venue Petrol Should You Buy?

For new Venue 1.2L petrol-manual buyers, the E variant is too basic to offer a decent ownership experience. So, we’ll strongly recommend compromising a little bit on the value front and buying at least the S variant. The S (O) variant offers poor value for money. Moreover, if you can afford this variant, then it’s better to buy the S (O) turbo, which offers better performance, more features and the convenience of the auto-clutch manual transmission. The higher SX variant with the 1.2L engine justifies the incremental cost over the lower variants but for better ownership and driving experience, we’ll suggest buying one of the turbo petrol variants.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Hyundai Venue Petrol?

Among non-turbo petrol SUVs, the Vitara Brezza and Urban Cruiser have the best power and torque output but from a large-displacement engine. Among Venue 1.2’s comparable rivals, the Magnite has the best mileage of 18.75kmpl. The Magnite and Kiger twins have much lower power and torque output but they have respectable power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratios to deliver satisfactory performance for city use.

Against comparable turbo petrol SUVs, the Venue turbo offers good performance but the Magnite and Kiger turbo offer class-leading torque-to-weight ratios with manual transmission. In terms of mileage as well, the Magnite and Kiger offer best-in-segment figures at 20kmpl. However, the Venue turbo isn’t too far off from the top performers with a mileage figure of around 18kmpl. The Venue and Sonet’s strength also lies in their auto-clutch manual transmission, which is almost as convenient as an automatic while being about as affordable as a regular manual transmission.
