Tata Safari Production Gets Underway Ahead Of January 26 Launch | V3Cars

Tata recently confirmed that the Gravitas will be called the Safari and it will go on sale on 26 January 2021. Now, a leaked image has confirmed that series production for the Safari is already underway. It looks likes a lower variant of the Safari as it gets steel wheels instead of the 17-inch alloys expected on the top-spec variant.

Tata Safari

The Safari debuted as the Gravitas at the 2020 Auto Expo. It looks similar to the Harrier SUV but gets a redesigned rear end in order to accommodate the extra row of seats. It also gets a step-up roof in order to make more headroom for the 3rd row of occupants. The rear profile looks more upright and features mildly redesigned tail lamps. Upfront, it looks similar to the Harrier but features a slightly reworked front grille with a tri-arrow pattern. In terms of dimensions, the Safari is longer (63mm) and taller (80mm) than the Harrier but both SUVs are identical in terms of width and wheelbase.

On the inside, while the cabin layout of the Safari will be similar to the Harrier but it gets a dual-tone black-beige finish instead of the black-brown upholstery seen on the Harrier. Tata might also offer a 6-seater version of the Safari which will get captain seats instead of the bench seat, in the second row.

Additional features on the Safari should include front parking sensors, electronic parking brake and connected car tech. Other features on offer should include up to 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill launch assist, panoramic sunroof, auto AC, semi-digital instrument cluster, powered driver’s seat, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a JBL sound system.

Under the hood, the Safari will be powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel engine as the Harrier. It makes 170PS and 350Nm paired to either a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Tata might also launch a turbocharged petrol engine on the Safari.

Prices of the Safari are expected to range from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 21 lakh. It will take on likes of the MG Hector Plus and the Mahindra XUV500.
