October 2021 - Tata Punch Petrol Variants Explained - Which One To Buy?
Tata Punch is a B1-segment SUV positioned below the Nexon in Tata’s SUV portfolio. This car is based on the ALFA-ARC platform, which is a modified version of the platform used in the Altroz. Hence we expected it to perform well in GNCAP crash tests and it didn’t disappoint. In the tests, the Punch performed exceptionally well and became the safest made-in-India car with a 5-star rating, narrowly beating the Mahindra XUV300 while also posting better safety scores than the Altroz and Nexon. This is how the GNCAP crash test score of the Punch compares with a few other made-in-India cars:

Tata Punch Is Safer Than Nexon, Altroz, XUV300, Thar - Safety Score Comparison
In terms of features, the top variant of Punch gets projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED taillights, 16-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, reverse parking camera, auto AC, electrically adjustable and retractable ORVMs and cruise control.Surprisingly, the Punch doesn’t get front armrest and rear AC vents. Punch has 319 litres of boot space and a respectable 187mm ground clearance.
The Punch uses the same 1.2-litre 3-cylinder normal petrol engine as the Tiago and Tigor. It also shares the transmission options with these two Tata cars and gets the option of a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT automatic. In the Punch, this engine produces 86PS of power at 6000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 3300rpm. These figures are identical to the Tiago and Tigor’s even though the Punch gets a ram-air intake, which reportedly improves the performance while cruising on the highways. The car delivers ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 18.97kmpl for manual transmission and 18.82kmpl for automatic transmission.
The car competes with Maruti Ignis, Tiago NRG, and normal petrol versions of the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
