Out of nowhere, we’re hearing that the Vitara Brezza could soon get a CNG bi-fuel option. The specs for the rumoured Brezza CNG leaked online that they’re pretty much in line with the Ertiga’s. That’s because the Ertiga already has a factory CNG option.

This same 1.5-litre engine makes 105PS of power and 138Nm of torque when running on petrol. With CNG, the engine makes 92.5PS of power and 122Nm of torque in the Ertiga and that’s what we expect the Brezza CNG to make at the crankshaft.

The leak reinforces the fact that Maruti Suzuki are going all-in on the CNG train. The carmaker still maintains an undisputed lead over the rivals but Maruti’s market share is shrinking by the day. This is largely because of the onslaught of SUVs from every direction and partially because of the lack of a wide range of engine and transmission options.

Maruti Suzuki neither have a turbo petrol nor a turbo-diesel engine in their lineup. Similarly, their transmission options are also limited to the manual, an AMT automatic, a vintage 4-speed torque converter and a CVT (Baleno). Meanwhile, Hyundai have a manual, CVT, DCT, torque converter, AMT and even an auto-clutch manual (ACMT) in their lineup. That’s pretty much everything under the sun.

However, the rising crude oil prices are creating havoc for the average citizen. Having a CNG fuel option with most cars should help Maruti regain some of the lost ground and help car buyers save on their running and ownership costs. Tata Motors are also reportedly working on offering a factory-fit CNG option with the TiagoTigor and Nexon.
