Tata Punch CNG Likely To Launch Soon | V3Cars
Tata Motors could soon launch the Punch CNG in India. The Tata Punch CNG will make use of the same powertrain seen on the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG. The Tata Punch CNG will be offered with the same set of features as the standard Punch petrol, and we expect Tata Motors to offer it in the top variants as well.
With fuel prices at an all-time high and assumed to go even higher in the near future, more cars are likely to offer bi-fuel options. As the Punch doesn’t get a diesel option, CNG seems to be the perfect choice of fuel for buyers looking for an affordable commuter. An efficient powertrain coupled with a tall-riding stance and compliant suspension would make the Punch CNG a compelling vehicle to have.

The Tata Punch CNG will use the same 1.2L normal petrol engine which powers the Tiago, Tigor and Altroz. With CNG, this engine produces 73PS of power and 95Nm of torque in the Tiago and Tigor CNG. We expect the same powertrain with similar power and torque figures to make its way to the Punch CNG. Reports also suggest that Tata Motors are working to offer an automated manual transmission (AMT) with their CNG offerings.
Speaking of the powertrain in the Punch, it comes with a 1.2L normal petrol engine. It produces 86PS of power at 6000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 3300rpm-3400rpm. It comes with 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT transmission options.
Some reports suggest that Tata Motors are actively working on a turbo petrol engine for the Punch. The Punch turbo could make use of the same powertrain we get with the Altroz Turbo. In the Altroz turbo, the 1.2L turbo petrol engine produces 110PS of power at 5500rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1500rpm-5500rpm.

We expect Tata Motors to launch the Punch CNG this year. Tata Motors could also launch the Altroz CNG and Nexon CNG, increasing its CNG range from 2 cars to 5 cars in the coming months. The Tata Punch CNG will not have any direct rivals as no subcompact SUV currently offers a CNG option in the Indian market.
