Should Maruti Suzuki Launch The XL7 In India? Here’s What We Think | V3Cars

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 has proven to be a popular MPV in India and accounts for a good chunk of Nexa sales. In the Indonesian market, Suzuki offer the XL7, a 7-seat version of the XL6. While Maruti Suzuki haven’t suggested the possibility of the XL7’s launch, it could be a good fit in its lineup. Here’s why.

Maruti Suzuki XL7

The Suzuki XL7 looks identical to the Maruti Nexa XL6 aside from some minor changes. For instance, the XL7 gets a different design for the alloy wheels but the size remains the same as the Maruti XL6, at 16-inch. Other changes include a new orange paint option, a rear spoiler and some chrome embellishments.

XL7

On the inside too, there are no big differences between the XL7 and the XL6. The XL7 gets bench seating for the middle row, making it a 7-seater. The XL6, as the name suggests, gets only seating for 6, with captain chairs in the middle-row. On the features front, the XL7 gets a camera feed for the IRVM like modern Range Rovers. Apart from that, the features and specifications are identical to the XL6.

The Suzuki XL7 gets the same 1.5L normal petrol engine as the XL6. It produces 105PS of power at 6000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 4400rpm. Transmission options include the same 5-speed manual and  4-speed torque converter automatic transmission as the Maruti Nexa XL6. However, we expect Maruti Suzuki to soon offer the XL6 facelift as well as the Ertiga facelift with a 6-speed torque converter transmission.

XL7

Currently, buyers who want 7 seat MPV from Maruti have only one option – the Ertiga. The XL6 sits as a premium offering in the Nexa space. Those who want to have the premium looks and space for 7 are forced to look elsewhere. Hence, the XL7 would be the perfect fit for such customers and it will also be able to woo some Kia Carens buyers. However, the year 2022 is going to be quite hectic for Maruti Suzuki as they have a slew of new car launches planned for the year. Hence, we do not expect Maruti Suzuki to launch the XL7 in India this year.
