Tata Motors Trademark Azura Nameplate

Tata Azura Trademarked – Will It Be The Curvv SUV? | V3Cars

Tata Motors have trademarked the name Azura and several rumours suggest it could be the name tag for the production version of the Curvv concept SUV. The Curvv SUV, which was showcased in its concept form at the 2023 Auto Expo, will be available with both ICE as well as electric powertrain.

Tata’s application for the trademark reveals that the Azura name will be put to use on “land vehicles and parts thereof.” Hence, it is safe to assume that Tata may use this name on one of their upcoming vehicles. With the launch of the Nexon and Nexon.ev wrapped up, Tata will now be working towards launching the production-spec version of the Curvv and Sierra.ev.

At the Auto Expo, Tata Motors suggested that the Curvv EV could go on sale ahead of the ICE versions. The production-spec Curvv EV is expected to feature the same electric powertrain as the recently launched long range version of the Nexon EV. The Nexon EV long range is powered by a 40.5kWh battery pack and it produces 145PS of power, 215Nm of torque and an ARAI-certified range of 465km per charge. However, unlike the Nexon.ev, the production-spec Curvv will be based on a new platform, which could enable Tata to offer a range of over 500km per charge.

The ICE derivatives of the Curvv are expected to be powered by Tata’s new 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that were showcased alongside the concept SUV at the 2023 Auto Expo. You can read more about the production-spec Curvv SUV’s likely engine options here. Tata could also retain the Nexon’s 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine for duty on the Curvv.

When launched, the production-spec version of the Curvv ICE is expected to rival C-segment SUVs, such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor, among others.  The Curvv EV could rival the likes of the Hyundai Kona and the MG ZS EV.
