A production-spec model of the Tata HBX was spied recently ahead of its expected to debut later this year. As the test mule was partially camouflaged, it revealed the SUV’s front fascia which looks largely similar to the HBX concept which was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.

In line with the brand’s modern design language, it gets top-mounted LED DRLs connected by a chrome trim element while the headlamps are positioned lower in the bumper. The HBX gets a dual-tone bumper with a cladded lower half housing a large central air dam flanking by circular fog lamps. The body cladding on the front bumper extends to the side profile covering the wheel arches and even the rear bumper. On the side, the HBX also features a floating roof with blacked-out A-,B- and C-pillars with the rear door handle incorporated in the C-pillar as well. It also gets dual-tone alloy wheels filling the squared-off wheel arches.

The latest spy shots do not reveal anything about the interior of the upcoming SUV. However, we can confirm from the past spy shots that it will look similar to the concept showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will get a free-standing 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system sitting at the top of the central AC vents along with an Altroz-like semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch display.

Other features on offer will include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, auto AC with rear AC vents, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, connected car tech, cruise control, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, parking camera, hill launch assist and electronic stability control.

Under the hood, the HBX is likely to be powered by the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine that is offered on the Tiago, Tigor and the Altroz. It makes 86PS and 113Nm paired to a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT.

Tata is expected to launch the HBX by Diwali this year (November). Prices are expected to range from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh and it will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 NXT.
