Tata Altroz Automatic Launch In 2022 | V3Cars
Tata Motors are likely to launch the Altroz automatic in late 2022. Due to the chip shortage, the launch could be pushed to late 2022 from the earlier timeline of mid-2022. It remains to be seen whether Tata Motors use the rumoured DCT transmission or a CVT automatic transmission.
Tata Motors will most likely offer the Altroz automatic with the turbo-petrol engine. With the 5-speed manual gearbox, the Altroz turbo produces 110PS of power and 140Nm of torque. Tata Motors had to limit the torque output in favour of better operational life of the 5-speed manual gearbox. However, with the automatic transmission, Tata Motors could increase the torque output to match the Altroz’ rivals. For instance, the Volskwagen Polo GT TSI offers 175Nm of torque and the i20 turbo offers 172Nm of torque.
There are only two practical transmission choices for the Altroz automatic - either a DCT or a CVT. If Tata were to offer an AMT, they would have introduced it alongside the manual variants itself, as the Nexon makes use of an AMT in both petrol and diesel engines. While the DCT transmission offers quick shifts, it cannot match the seamless experience and reliability of a CVT.
The Tata Altroz turbo automatic will rival the Hyundai i20 turbo DCT, Volkswagen Polo GT TSI, Honda Jazz CVT and the upcoming 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Tata Motors could charge a premium of around Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1 lakh for the automatic transmission option over the corresponding manual variants.
