MG Astor Customer Reports 18kmpl Fuel Efficiency On Highways | V3Cars
An MG Astor owner recently shared with us the fuel efficiency figures he got on the highway. His Astor, equipped with a 1.3L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a 6-speed Torque Converter automatic transmission returned a mileage of 18.2kmpl. Even if the calculations are not precise, we can expect a real-world mileage of around 18kmpl.
The owner shared his driving data stored in the MG app, as the Astor gets connected-car technology. He covered a distance of 170km on the highway in 2 and a half hours. His average speed was 67kmph all this while. In his drive, he touched a maximum speed of 106kmph. Out of this 170km, he drove for 87km maintaining a speed higher than 80kmph. As we know that the Astor gets a 6-speed automatic transmission, we can assume that the car was cruising between 1500 to 2200rpm in 6th gear.
The fuel efficiency under these conditions is impressive, considering that the 1.3L turbo petrol engine is built for performance and not mileage. The fuel efficiency you get might alter depending on your driving style and conditions. MG have not released any official mileage figures yet. However, a leaked document from MG suggested the following fuel efficiency figures for different engine and gearbox combinations:
- 1.5L normal petrol engine with 5-speed MT - 14-15kmpl
- 1.5L normal petrol engine with CVT - 10-12kmpl
- 1.3L turbo petrol engine with 6-speed TC - 9-12kmpl
Compared with these leaked figures, this owner’s Astor is delivering way more than the suggested fuel efficiency figures in the real world. We have compared the fuel efficiency of Astor to the ARAI mileage of its counterparts. Here’s what we found.
Looking at the table, we can conclude that Astor is the most fuel-efficient turbo petrol engine in its segment. Maruti does not offer any turbo petrol engine with the S-Cross.
As the Astor 1.3L turbo petrol has a fuel tank capacity of 45 litres, we can safely assume that it has a range of 819km. However, ideally, you would not drive on the highway all the time. So the real-world range could fall between 650km and 800km depending on how you drive.
The MG Astor also gets a 1.5L normal petrol engine that produces less power and torque. Check out all the engine options in the table below:
