Mercedes Benz A-Class Sedan To Launch In India On 25 March | V3Cars

Mercedes Benz started accepting the pre-launch bookings for the A-Class sedan in February 2020 as it was expected to go on sale by the end of 2020. However, the launch was delayed due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the country. Now, the German carmaker has confirmed that the A-Class sedan will go on sale in India on 25 March 2021. It will replace the CLA sedan in the brand’s India lineup.

Christened the A-Class Limousine, the entry-level premium sedan will be offered in a single full loaded variant with both petrol (A 200) and diesel (A 200d) engines. Mercedes will also offer the AMG A35 version of the sedan in India and it will be manufactured in India alongside the other variants. 

The A 200 will be powered by a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine making 163PS of power and 250Nm of peak torque mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The A 200d, on the other hand, will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine making 150PS and 320Nm paired to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic. The range-topping, A35, will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine making 306PS and 400Nm paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes claims that the A35 can go from 0-100kmph in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 250kmph. 

On the features front, the A-Class Limousine will be equipped with a panoramic sunroof, digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, parking camera, LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, electrically adjustable front seats, wireless mobile charging, two-zone climate control and cruise control. Safety features on offer include multiple airbags, front and rear parking sensor and ABS with EBD.

Dimensionally, the A- Class sedan is 4549mm long, 1796mm wide and 1446mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2729mm. Compared to its arch-rival, the 2 Series Gran Coupe, it is 23mm long and 26mm tall but is narrower by 4mm. The A-Class’ wheelbase is also longer by 59mm.

Prices of the A-Class Limousine are expected to start around Rs 40 lakh. It will take on the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, which is priced from Rs 40.40 lakh to Rs 42.30 lakh (ex-showroom India).
