Kia Seltos Likely To Get An iMT Transmission Soon

Kia Seltos Likely To Get An iMT Transmission Soon | V3Cars

Kia is gearing to launch an updated version of the Seltos on 27 April 2021. While earlier it was expected that it will be a mild feature and cosmetic update, the latest report suggests that Kia will also introduce an option of iMT (clutchless manual transmission) on petrol variants of the Kia Seltos.

If this happens, the Seltos will be the second car in Kia’s lineup and the third car overall to receive an iMT transmission. Kia is expected to offer the 6-speed iMT transmission on both the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine (140PS and 242Nm) and the naturally aspirated petrol engine (115PS and 144Nm). Currently, while the 1.4-litre turbo is offered with a 6-speed MT and a 7-speed DCT, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine can be had with a 6-speed MT and a CVT.

With the introduction of an iMT transmission, the Seltos will have five transmission options in its lineup including a 6-speed MT, 6-speed AT, 7-speed DCT, CVT and the upcoming 6-speed iMT.

The reports also suggest that the iMT will be offered on the HTK+ and the GTX+ variants. Where the HTK+ variant gets the 1.5-litre NA petrol engine, the top-spec GTX+ comes with the 1.4-litre turbo unit.

Other updates that are expected to make way to the Seltos include the new Kia logo and a panoramic sunroof. Other features are expected to remain similar including connected car tech, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, air purifier, LED headlamps, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, hill launch assist and upto 6 airbags.

Kia might also introduce the iMT option on the Seltos Gravity Edition which is expected to go on sale in India soon. Compared to the standard Seltos, it features cosmetic updates in the form of a new grille, updated alloys and a new colour for the interior upholstery.

The updated Seltos is expected to be priced at a slight premium over the current model which retails from Rs 9.89 lakh to Rs 17.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It will continue to rival ikes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster and upcoming SUVs like the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.
