Hyundai Sonata Facelift Revealed – Gets 2023 Verna-Like Styling | V3Cars

Hyundai have unveiled the 2023 Sonata facelift for global markets. Hyundai’s D-segment sedan now features the same styling as the recently-launched Verna 2023. Read on to know more about the 2023 Hyundai Sonata’s design, powertrain, price and India launch details.

Hyundai Sonata 2023 Design Update

The Hyundai Sonata facelift features several changes on the outside. Like the new Verna 2023, the Sonata facelift features an LED bar that spans across the bonnet, split LED headlamps and angular extensions on the front grille, giving the new Sonata a sporty stance. The side profile remains more or less the same as before with a slanting roofline that gives the Sonata a coupe-esque look.

The rear features the same design motif as the front. Here, a light bar joins the two LED taillamps to create a "H"-shaped structure. The new Sonata’s sporty looks is enhanced by a well-integrated boot lid spoiler and quad exhaust tips.

On the inside, the new Sonata for 2023 gets a major overhaul. The redesigned dashboard now features twin 12.3-inch displays, one of which serves as the infotainment system while the other functions as a digital instrument cluster. The new Sonata sedan also features a 3-spoke steering wheel and touch controls for the climate control.

Hyundai Sonata Facelift Engine Options And ADAS Features

The new Hyundai Sonata gets 3 engine options – a 2.5L normal petrol, a 2.5L turbo petrol and 2.0L petrol hybrid. Hyundai say the 2.5L turbo petrol was designed specifically for the Sonata N Line. It puts out 290PS of power and 422Nm of torque. The power and torque ratings and transmission options of the other engines are yet to be revealed.

In terms of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), the Sonata facelift gets

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5 (FCA 1.5)
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA)
  • Blind-spot Collision Assist (BCA)
  • Safe Exit Warning (SEW)
  • Safe Exit Assist (SEA)
  •  Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
  • Lane Following Assist (LFA)
  • Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC w/ S&G)
  • Navigation based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC)
  • Highway Driving  Assist (HDA)

The Sonata facelift also includes Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) that enables the user to park the vehicle and exit parking spots by remotely reversing and forwarding with the smart key from outside the vehicle. Meanwhile, Rear Occupant Alert determines whether an infant is left unattended in the vehicle and provides a notification to prevent safety accidents.

2023 Hyundai Sonata India Launch

While Hyundai have been betting big on premium cars for the Indian market, such as the new Tucson and Ioniq 5, the Sonata is unlikely to go on sale on our shores. Most car buyers looking for a premium D-segment vehicle tend to pick up SUVs over sedans these days. Skoda and Toyota struggle to sell their D-segment sedans – the Superb and the Camry, respectively – in the face of stiff competition from the likes of the Fortuner and other SUVs. Honda pulled the plug on the Accord sedan a while back and are unlikely to launch the latest generation of the sedan in India in the near future. Hence, it does not make sense for Hyundai to launch the Sonata in India either.
