Hyundai have been testing the Creta EV prototype for a long time now. Read on to know the modifications the Creta has received to  receive an all-electric electric drivetrain.

At first glance, the Creta EV’s interior layout and design feels very similar to that of the ICE version of the popular C2-segment SUV. However, a closer inspection reveals a few key changes. To start with, the Creta EV prototype gets an all-digiltal instrument cluster like most other EVs in the market.

Furthermore, its steering column also houses the rotating gear selector lever like the one seen in the Ioniq 5. The centre console doesn’t boast the conventional gear selector for the drivetrain and that space is left blank. Apart from that, the prototype gets the same components as the ICE SUV, including the touchscreen, control switches and steering wheel.

Since it is just a prototype, it is hard to tell whether the Creta EV will turn into a reality or just serve as a test bed for future EVs from Hyundai. It’s no secret that Hyundai are already working on their made-in-India electric vehicles that are likely to be launched at competitive prices thanks to a high degree of localisation.

Hyundai’s First EV Could Be An SUV

At the launch of the Hyundai Exter, Hyundai India’s Chief Operating Officer Tarun Garg shared that the carmaker plan to highly focus on SUVs since a large chunk of market share is currently taken by SUVs. That also applies to the electric vehicle market, which currently is also dominated by SUVs. Hence, it is natural from Hyundai to launch their first made-in-India electric offering with the popular SUV bodystyle. It remains to be seen which segment Hyundai plan to target with their first locally manufactured EV. Currently, the Hyundai Kona EV rivals the Mahindra XUV400 and MG ZS EV while the Ioniq 5 rivals the Volvo XC40 Recharge and Kia EV6.
