Hyundai Creta Electric SUV Spied At Charging Station

Hyundai Creta Electric SUV Spied While Charging | V3Cars

Hyundai are likely working on an electric SUV for the masses. Spy shots of a Hyundai Creta being charged at an EV charging station recently surfaced online, suggesting that the upcoming SUV could be based on the Creta. However, we believe the carmaker could be using the Creta as a testbed for an affordable electric SUV that’s likely to get a starting price of under Rs. 15 lakh. The upcoming made-in-India Hyundai electric SUV is likely to launch in 2025.

We believe that Hyundai are using the body shell of the Hyundai Creta to test their electric vehicle architecture for the Indian market. While Hyundai already have their dedicated skateboard electric platform that underpins the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, the carmaker must be working on an ICE-derived EV platform for affordable electric vehicles for the masses.

The Hyundai Kona Electric, which was the first long-range electric SUV in India, is also underpinned by an ICE-derived platform. However, with the test car, Hyundai could be testing the feasibility of their India-oriented platform with an electric drivetrain. The test car is far away from production ready since it gets different-coloured front and rear bumpers and the charging port for the batteries lie under the bonnet rather than on the side panels or the front grille.

Hyundai have already revealed their plans to launch a made-in-India electric vehicle in 2025. We believe the Creta electric test car is serving as a test bed for the upcoming Hyundai electric vehicle. While details are scarce, we expect Hyundai to choose the SUV bodystyle to underpin their made-in-india electric vehicle platform.

Currently, Hyundai offer 2 electric vehicles in the country — Kona Electric and Ioniq 5. While both these models are sold in India as CKD units, these are far away from being called accessible or affordable. However, the upcoming Hyundai EV is likely to be priced competitively. We expect the upcoming Hyundai electric SUV to get a starting price of under Rs. 15 lakh, which will put it up against the likes of the Tata Nexon EV Prime and Citroen eC3.
