Hyundai Exter Vs Tata Punch - Expected Engine Specs Comparison
Update: Hyundai confirmed the engine options of the 2023 Exter on May 8, 2023. This post includes the updated powertrain details based on the currently available information.
In this Exter vs Punch (expected) engine spec comparison, we’ll try to find out which car excels in what aspects of the engine specs. Besides the Tata Punch, the Hyundai Exter will also rival the affordable SUVs like the Maruti Fronx, Citroen C3, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
Tata Punch Vs Hyundai Exter - Normal Petrol Engine Spec Comparison (Expected)
The Tata Punch gets a 1.2L normal petrol engine with a manual as well as an AMT automatic transmission. The Hyundai Exter will also get a 1.2L normal petrol engine with a manual and a 5-speed AMT automatic transmission.
Coming to the specifications, the Punch is likely to offer 3PS more power while the Exter may offer 1Nm better torque output. In terms of fuel efficiency, the two cars seem like they may be on par with only nominal differences in mileage figures.
Two things that catch our attention are the number of cylinders and the peak torque RPM. The Exter 2023 will have a 4 cylinder engine. These are inherently balanced and feel smoother to drive than 3 cylinder engines. On the flip side, the Tata Punch has 113Nm of torque peaking at a lower 3300rpm, which should help with better drivability in the city as well as on the highways.

Hyundai Exter Vs Tata Punch - CNG Bi-Fuel Engine Spec Comparison (Expected)
Besides the normal petrol-manual and automatic powertrains, Hyundai also confirmed that the Exter will get the CNG bi-fuel option with a manual transmission. While the specs aren’t out yet, we expect its performance figures to align with those of the Nios CNG. So, it could make 69PS of power and 95Nm of torque while claiming to deliver mileage of around 26kmpkg when running on CNG. Meanwhile, the Tata Punch doesn’t get a CNG fuel option at the time of publishing this article. However, Tata Motors have confirmed that the Punch is highly likely to get a CNG bi-fuel option sometime in 2023. Just like the Altroz CNG, the biggest advantage of the Punch CNG is that it will have a bigger, more usable boot than other CNG cars with a hatch-style boot lid.
