Upcoming Hatchbacks At Auto Expo 2023

The 2023 Auto Expo is just around the corner and we expect carmakers to showcase and/or launch several cars at the auto show. Several carmakers, such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata, MG and Hyundai are set to showcase their cars next month. Here, we list hatchbacks that are likely to come to the Auto Expo.

Upcoming Hatchbacks

Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R Flex Fuel

Maruti Suzuki will showcase the Wagon-R flex fuel at the 2023 Auto Expo. While the carmaker recently revealed the Wagon-R flex fuel at a private event, it will make its first public appearance at the auto show. The Wagon R flex fuel is designed to run on ethanol-petrol blend ranging from E20 (ethanol 20 percent) to E85 (ethanol 85 percent). The flex fuel version of the B1-segment hatchback is expected to retain the same features as the Wagon-R petrol, including a touchscreen infotainment system, electronically-adjustable ORVMs and rear washer with wiper. It’s worth mentioning that while the Wagon-R flex fuel with E85 compliance is under testing, Maruti Suzuki will update their entire range of vehicles with E20-fuel compliance by March 2023.

MG Air EV

MG Motor India will reveal the Air EV small urban electric hatchback at the 2023 Auto Expo. The Air EV is already on sale in several international markets under the Wuling brand. In India, it will receive the MG logo and we expect it to feature a new name as well. The Air EV comes with 2 battery options – 17.3kWh and 26.7kWh. The standard battery variant offers 200km of range while the long-range version promises a 300km range per charge. Both variants get a 41PS electric motor driving the rear axle. In terms of prices, MG could charge anywhere between Rs. 8.0 lakh to 10.0 lakh for this cute 2-door city hauler. It’s affordable for sure, but not cheap by any means considering the size of the car.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Hybrid

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is one of the most popular nameplates in the country and the current-gen model is nearing the end of its lifecycle. At the 2023 Auto Expo, we expect Maruti Suzuki to showcase the next-gen Swift hatchback in either pre-production or concept form. Rumours suggest that the next-gen Swift will come with a strong hybrid powertrain and deliver a fuel efficiency figure of over 30kmpl. The Swift is a B1-segment hatchback and it’ll continue to rival cars like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Tata Tiago, Tiago NRG and Maruti Nexa Ignis. If it gets a strong hybrid engine, the next-gen Swift could cost between Rs. 6.0 lakh and Rs. 10.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Altroz EV

Tata Motors showcased the Altroz EV at the 2020 Auto Expo in concept form. For the 2023 edition of the auto show, we expect the Indian carmaker to showcase the production-spec Altroz EV. The Altroz EV will be the first all-electric premium hatchback in the country. It could come with a 28kWh battery pack and a 320km range with a full charge. In terms of pricing, it could cost between Rs. 12.27 lakh and Rs. 14.40 lakh. The Altroz EV has no direct rivals from other carmakers. Tata’s own Tiago EV, Tigor EV and Nexon EV are the only alternatives for a potential Altroz EV buyer. However, the Altroz EV will soon receive a worthy rival in the form of the Citroen eC3.

Hyundai Grand-i10 Nios Facelift

The Grand-i10 Nios facelift was spotted multiple times on test. At the 2023 Auto Expo, we expect Hyundai to reveal the Grand-i10 Nios facelift while its launch could take place soon after the auto show. We expect the Nios facelift to pack a refreshed exterior design and new features. A few of the new features could include an updated infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, front centre armrest, wireless phone charger and updated instrument cluster. The Grand i10 Nios facelift is likely to continue with the same set of powertrain options as the current model.
