What Are The Pros And Cons Of Maruti Suzuki Brezza Petrol, CNG?

The pros or advantages of Maruti Suzuki Brezza petrol/CNG are:

• Great fuel efficiency even with the inefficient fluid coupling automatic transmission
• Styling is likeable and has a mass appeal to please most buyers
• Maruti Suzuki’s wide service network means it’s easy to find an authorised service outlet, spares and an experienced mechanic
• Healthy list of features include tilt and telescopic steering, head-up display, 6 airbags, LED projector headlamps, cruise control, 360-degree camera, wireless phone charger, keyless entry with push-button start/stop
• The only B2-segment SUV with CNG bi-fuel option

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza petrol/CNG has the following shortcomings or problems:

• No turbo petrol and diesel engine options available
• No front armrest even in the otherwise fairly well-loaded ZXI variant
• Automatic transmission is expensive at Rs. 1.50 lakh over the manual
• The fluid coupling in the torque converter automatic transmission makes it quite inefficient in stop-and-go traffic
• Higher variants are expensive for a B2-segment petrol SUV
• Considering the high price of the Brezza, it’s missing features like tyre pressure sensors (TPMS), auto wipers and ventilated front seats

What Is The Price Of Maruti Suzuki Brezza Petrol, CNG Variants?

The Brezza petrol is available in 4 variants with a manual transmission with prices starting at Rs. 8.29 lakh for the LXI variant and going up to Rs. 12.48 lakh for the ZXI Plus variant. The higher 3 variants also offer the option of an automatic for an additional Rs. 1.50 lakh, which is considerably higher than what other carmakers typically charge for a CVT, DCT or TC automatic. The Brezza automatic variants cost between Rs. 11.15 lakh and Rs. 13.98 lakh.

The lower 3 variants of the Brezza also get a CNG bi-fuel option and cost Rs. 95,000 more than the comparable petrol-manual variants. The Brezza CNG variants’ ex-showroom prices start at Rs. 9.24 lakh and go up to Rs. 12.0 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza LXI - Base Model Features

The base LXI variant of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza SUV gets a 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol-manual and a 1.5L normal CNG-manual powertrain option. With the petrol engine, the Brezza LXI carries an ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 8.29 lakh while the CNG variant costs Rs. 9.24 lakh.

The most notable features of the Brezza’s LXI base model are:

• Halogen projector headlamps
• Day/night inside mirror
• Remote central locking
• 16-inch steel wheel with covers
• Tilt steering
• All power windows
• Rear AC vents
• Black outside mirrors
• Manual AC

Considering the ex-showroom price, the base variant doesn’t get a few must-have features like:

• TPMS
• Music system
• Auto AC
• Steering-mounted controls
• Rear defogger and washer wiper
• Height-adjustable driver seat

Although the base LXI variant doesn’t get some important features, we’ll suggest buying it and accessorising it from the aftermarket or with dealer accessories. The next VXI variant is quite expensive for the features it adds and offers poor value for money. So, we won’t recommend upgrading to a higher variant.

Maruti Brezza LXI vs VXI Variant - Price, Feature Comparison

Besides the petrol-manual and CNG-manual, the VXI variant also adds the option of a petrol-automatic powertrain. The VXI variant costs Rs. 9.65 lakh with the petrol-manual, Rs. 11.15 lakh with the automatic and Rs. 10.60 lakh with the CNG powertrain. The VXI petrol-manual is Rs. 1.36 lakh pricier than the lower LXI variant. The automatic transmission costs Rs. 1.50 lakh over the manual while the CNG powertrain maintains a Rs. 95,000 premium like the base model.

The VXI variant gets the following additional notable features over the base LXI variant:

• Rear defogger
• 7-inch touchscreen
• 4x speakers
• Android Auto and Apple Carplay
• Steering-mounted controls
• Power-folding mirrors
• Auto AC
• Height-adjustable driver seat

Even with the VXI variant, you may miss the following features:

• Front armrest
• Rear armrest
• Rear parcel tray
• Rear washer wiper
• Split rear seatbacks
• TPMS
• Keyless entry with push-button start/stop

While the VXI variant gets a few extra features, it still misses out on some more critical features. Moreover, it offers extremely poor value for money for the incremental cost over the LXI variant. So, it’s better to either stretch your budget for a higher variant or buy the base LXI variant and add aftermarket accessories.

The Brezza ZXI costs Rs. 11.05 lakh with the manual transmission and Rs. 12.55 lakh with the automatic. The ZXI CNG costs Rs. 12.0 lakh (ex-showroom). These prices are Rs. 1.40 lakh more than the lower VXI trim with the comparable powertrain options.

The Brezza’s ZXI variant gets the following notable additional features over VXI:

• Rear washer wiper
• Sunglass holder
• Cruise control
• LED projector headlamps
• LED DRLs
• Rear armrest
• Keyless entry with push-button start/stop
• Colour LCD for MID
• Black and brown interior

Even in the ZXI variant, you will miss features like a front armrest and TPMS.

Considering the asking price of the ZXI variant, you might miss a couple of features. Other than that, the ZXI variant somewhat justifies the cost over the lower variants with the additional features. It’s our top recommended variant for Brezza buyers for its acceptable value for money and a fairly balanced set of features.

The top-spec ZXI Plus manual costs Rs. 12.48 lakh while the automatic costs Rs. 13.98 lakh. The top model of the Brezza is Rs. 1.44 lakh pricier than the lower ZXI variant and it doesn't get the CNG-manual powertrain option.

It gets the following notable additional features over the ZXI trim:

• Ambient lighting
• Machined alloy wheels
• Telematics
• Arkamys surround sound
• Larger 9-inch touchscreen
• Auto-dimming inside mirror
• Auto-fold outside mirrors

• Cooled glovebox
• Glovebox lamp
• Leather wrapped steering wheel
• Head-up display
• 360-degree camera

TPMS and auto wipers are the features you won’t get in any variant of the Brezza.

Besides some safety and functional add-ons, the ZXI Plus variant mostly adds good-to-have features. On the value front though, the ZXI Plus justifies the jump over the ZXI trim and it’s worth buying if you want some of these features. For most Brezza buyers, though, the ZXI will suffice, which remains our top recommendation.

Which Variant Of The Maruti Suzuki Brezza Petrol Should You Buy?

The Maruti Brezza’s VXI variant is quite expensive for the features it adds over the LXI variant. So, we’ll suggest buying the LXI variant and adding accessories to it instead of buying VXI, which offers poor value for money. If you want the VXI’s features, then consider stretching your budget to accommodate the ZXI. While the ZXI variant also doesn’t completely justify the incremental cost over the base LXI variant, it offers much better value than the VXI variant and gets a balanced set of features. ZXI is our top recommended variant for Brezza buyers. From there, the ZXI Plus also has a decent value-for-money score, but not enough must-have features to warrant an upgrade. If you find the features of the ZXI Plus variant compelling enough, then you can consider buying it over the ZXI.

Just like the Brezza petrol-manual, the Brezza automatic’s VXI variant is expensive and lacks a few important features too. So, consider stretching your budget for the ZXI trim as it offers much better value for money over the VXI automatic. If you want the fully-loaded ZXI Plus variant, then the ZXI Plus also offers a decent value for money and is worth buying. It’s worth noting that the automatic transmission itself carries a premium of Rs. 1.50 lakh over the manual’s ex-showroom price. So, you’re paying a higher premium than what we expect for the convenience of automatic transmission.

With the CNG powertrain too, you should buy either the base LXI or the ZXI variant. The mid-spec VXI doesn’t justify the value for the features it adds over the base model. Moreover, it also misses a few must-have features.

It’s worth noting that based on the additional ex-showroom price you’re paying for the CNG powertrain, the current fuel price in Delhi and the official mileage figures, our calculations suggest that you’ll have to drive the CNG model for around 60,000km just to recover the higher upfront cost. So, if you don’t intend to drive the Brezza for significantly more than 60,000km during the ownership, then it’s better to buy the petrol variants and enjoy the higher power and torque output along with a larger boot space.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Maruti Suzuki Brezza Petrol?

Among B2-segment’s non-turbo petrol SUVs, the Brezza has the biggest displacement of 1.5L and it naturally has best power and torque figures as well. While offering better performance, the Brezza’s 1.5L mild-hybrid engine also promises better efficiency of almost 20kmpl.

The Brezza’s non-turbo petrol engine has trouble competing with turbo petrol engines. The turbo petrol engines offer far better torque output for a wider RPM range to provide easier drivability at low to mid-range RPMs. in terms of power, the smaller 1.0L turbo petrol engines have no trouble matching or beating the Brezza’s 103PS figure. Even in terms of mileage, the Magnite and Kiger turbo petrol-manual narrowly beat the Brezza’s fuel efficiency figure. However, with the automatic, the Brezza is the clear winner in the segment despite a power-sapping torque converter automatic transmission.

The Brezza is the only car in its segment with a CNG powertrain. When running on CNG, it makes 88PS of power and 122Nm of peak torque. It has a mileage of 25.5kmpkg with the CNG fuel, which results in a per-KM fuel cost of Rs. 3.24 based on the Delhi CNG fuel prices.
