The pros or advantages of Mahindra XUV300 diesel are:

The diesel-manual variants cost between Rs. 9.60 lakh and Rs. 13.23 lakh. Similarly, the diesel-automatic powertrain is also available in the same W6 and W8 (O) variants with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 11.70 lakh and Rs. 13.92 lakh, respectively. The XUV300 diesel-automatic variants cost Rs. 68,701 to Rs. 1.32 lakh more than the diesel-manual variants.

The diesel XUV300 variants carry a premium of Rs. 38,000 to Rs. 1.19 lakh over the comparable petrol variants. The price gap between the petrol and diesel powertrains is a little higher in the case of high W4 manual, W8 manual and W6 automatic. It’s worth noting that the W8 diesel-manual justifies the gap better than the other 2 expensive diesel variants as it gets the sunroof, which is not available with the W8 petrol.

Mahindra XUV300 Petrol Vs Diesel - Should You Buy XUV300 Petrol Or Diesel?

The ex-showroom price difference between the XUV300 petrol and diesel variants varies between Rs. 38,000 and Rs. 1.20 lakh. We know that the diesel engines have better fuel efficiency and lower fuel costs in most cities. Considering the December 2022 fuel prices in Delhi, XUV300 manual buyers can expect to recover this higher upfront cost in 30,000km to 95,000km depending on the variant. With the automatic transmission, the price gap is Rs. 85,500 to Rs. 1.20 lakh. With the fuel price and fuel efficiency differences, you can expect to recover this price gap in 75,000km to 1.05 lakh kilometres.

Note: It’s worth mentioning that the W8 diesel-manual also gets sunroof, which is not available with the W8 petrol-manual. We’ve not factored this into these calculations.

If you also value the performance of a XUV300’s diesel engine like higher torque and slightly higher power, then you should also take that into account. The W8 (O) top model of the Mahindra XUV300 diesel gets manual as well as automatic transmission options. With the diesel-manual, the W8 (O) costs Rs. 13.23 lakh and with the automatic, it costs Rs. 13.92 lakh. This variant is Rs. 82,000 pricier than the lower W8 variant. The automatic is another Rs. 67,701 more expensive than the manual. For diesel-automatic buyers, the jump from W6 automatic to W8 (O) will cost Rs. 2.22 lakh more. The W8 (O) adds the following important features over the W8 trim:

Which Variant Of The Mahindra XUV300 Diesel Should You Buy?

For the Mahindra XUV300 diesel-manual buyers, the base W4 variant is not worth buying. Not only does it miss out on several must-have features, the W6 only is a small price jump away and offers a far superior value for money. The W6 is the most value for money option available in the XUV300 diesel-manual lineup. The W8 justifies the upgrade from the base variant but doesn’t offer a stellar VFM score compared to the W6 diesel-manual. Compared to other turbo diesel B2-segment SUVs, the XUV300’s power and torque output are better than its rivals. However, it’s worth noting that the XUV300 diesel is also a heavy vehicle. So it may not feel like it’s that much faster as its torque-to-weight ratio is only a little bit better than the Venue’s. The efficiency figures of the XUV300 diesel are acceptable. However, the WRV’s 23.7kmpl for diesel-manual and Nexon’s 22.07kmpl for diesel-automatic are a fair bit higher than the XUV300’s diesel mileage numbers.

In terms of dimensions, the XUV300 is the widest car in its class with the longest wheelbase. These specifications suggest that the XUV300 has a roomier cabin than its rivals.
