What Are The Pros And Cons Of Mahindra Scorpio N Petrol?
The pros or advantages of Mahindra Scorpio N petrol are:
- Scorpio N’s best-in-class height and width with aggressive styling lend it tremendous road presence
- It’s the only 3-row D1-segment SUV with a rugged body-on-frame construction
- Punchy 2.0L turbo petrol engine is the most powerful engine in its class
- Offers the option of manual as well as automatic transmissions
- Option of captain seats in the 2nd row; although limited to top variant only
- Rugged and abuse-friendly body-on-frame construction makes it appropriate for driving on bad roads and even on wide trails
The Mahindra Scorpio N petrol has the following shortcomings or problems:
- Poor feature distribution leaves the Z8 with critical must-have features missing. The Z4 variant also doesn’t get a bunch of must-have features we expect from a car of this class while offering poor value for money over the base Z2 trim.
- Lack of Z6 variants makes it difficult for budget buyers to pick a variant with a reasonable feature set.
- 2nd row captain seats not available in any of the lower variants.
- Petrol-automatic carries a steep premium of almost Rs. 2.0 lakh over the manual variants and comes across as a very expensive option.
- Strange sequence of events around the car launch. Scorpio N launched -> prices revealed but not for automatic -> bookings open about 1 month after ‘launch’ -> prices for automatic revealed -> deliveries a few months after bookings.
What Is The Price Of Mahindra Scorpio N Petrol Variants?
The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio N petrol is available with a manual transmission in 4 variants with prices between Rs. 11.99 lakh and Rs. 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The automatic transmission is available in the higher 3 variants for an additional Rs. 1.96 lakh, which is considerably high for an automatic transmission. The 3 automatic variants cost between Rs. 15.45 lakh and Rs. 20.95 lakh.
The top variant is also available with a 6-seat configuration. It gets captain seats in the second row and it costs Rs. 20,000 more than the top-spec Z8 7-seater variant.

*Not confirmed; expected to be in base variant
Considering the asking price of the car, we believe that you might still miss the following features in this variant:
- Rear defogger
- Auto AC
- Rear AC vents
- Split rear seatback (available in higher variants)
- Rear camera
- Android Auto and Apple Carplay
- Separate compressor for AC (available in higher variants)
- Power mirrors (must-have for a wide car like the Scorpio N)
- Wheel covers
- Remote central locking
Since the base model doesn’t offer several must-have features, we won’t recommend buying the base Z2 variant of the Scorpio N petrol-manual.

The Z4 variant of the Scorpio N petrol-manual costs Rs. 13.49 lakh, which is Rs. 1.50 lakh more than the lower Z2 variant. In the Z4 variant, you might miss the following features:
- Power folding mirrors
- Auto AC
- Chrome grille
- Projector or LED headlamps
- LED DRLs
- Tyre pressure sensors
- Front parking sensors
- Rear camera
- Option of captain seats in 2nd row
Not only is the Z4 variant missing a few must-have features, it’s also overpriced for the features it adds over the base model. So, we’ll also not suggest buying the Z4 variant of the Scorpio N.

The Mahindra Scorpio N’s Z8 petrol variant costs Rs. 16.99 lakh with the manual and Rs. 18.95 lakh with the automatic transmission. These prices are Rs. 3.50 lakh higher than the Z4’s. While the price jump to the Z8 trim is too high it also adds several must-have and good-to-have features such as:
- Telematics
- 7-inch full-colour LCD instrument cluster
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay
- Drive modes
- Sunroof
- 3rd row reading lights
- 4 extra airbags

The Z8 variant not only covers the basic features, it also adds some features to drastically improve the ownership experience. Moreover, it almost justifies its value for the incremental cost over the base variant. So the Z8 variant is our top recommendation for Scorpio N petrol-manual buyers. This is also the minimum variant we’ll suggest buying if you’re interested in buying the Scorpio N with petrol-manual powertrain.

Some of the Z8L’s features are must-have but mostly, they are good-to-have. Z8L also offers similar value for money as the Z8 and is worth considering for buyers who have the budget for the top variant and find some of its features compelling.

If you want the Z8L with the 6-seat layout, then the Rs. 20,000 premium seems acceptable for the comfort of captain seats in the 2nd row.

Which Variant Of The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio N Petrol Should You Buy?
The Z2 variant is not worth buying as it lacks several must-have features, which we expect from a car of this class and at this price point. So, it’s not worth buying. You can also skip the Z4 variant of the Scorpio N petrol as it offers poor value for money. The lack of Z6 variant with the petrol engine makes the jump to the next variant steep, but it’s worth making.
Scorpio N petrol buyers should at least buy the Z8 variant as it offers far better value for money than the lower Z4 variant and will provide a premium ownership experience, which you expect from a car like Scorpio. It’s also our top recommendation for Scorpio N petrol buyers. The top-spec Z8L is also worth considering for its features and it offers similar value for money as the Z8.
The Rs. 20,000 premium for the captain seats in the 2nd row is somewhat reasonable. You’ll have to decide for yourself if you want the Scorpio N with 6-seat or 7-seat configuration.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Mahindra Scorpio N Petrol?
The Scorpio N petrol is the most powerful D1-segment SUV with 3-row seating even if it beats the XUV700 by only a small margin. The Scorpio N’s torque output are also at the top of its class and on par with the XUV700 7-seat petrol. Just like the XUV700 petrol, Mahindra haven’t revealed the mileage figures of the Scorpio N. We are expecting Scorpio N petrol’s mileage to be at the bottom among D1 petrol SUVs in terms of mileage.

What Are The Dimensions Of The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio N?
In terms of size, the Scorpio N is almost as long as the XUV700 7-seater. While the Scorpio N’s ground clearance of 187mm may not sound like much, its abuse-friendly body-on-frame construction is reassuring when going over bad roads. Tyre sizes are another thing, which caught our attention as even the Scorpio’s base tyre size is wider than all of its rivals’. The Scorpio N’s top-spec tyres are even wider.
