The Volvo XC40 Recharge will be the first all-electric Volvo model in the country. The Scandinavian brand revealed the XC40 Recharge back in March 2021. However, due to the shortage of semiconductors, its launch was delayed. The XC40 Recharge looks similar to the petrol-powered XC40, save for an enclosed grille and Recharge badging.

On the inside, the XC40 Recharge is again similar to the regular XC40. It offers features like an Android-based touchscreen infotainment system, digital LCD driver’s display, powered front seats, panoramic sunroof and brake energy regeneration.

The XC40 Recharge comes with a 78kWh battery pack and two electric motors — mounted to each axle. The power and torque output of the XC40 stands at 408PS and 660NM respectively. It can do 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds whereas the top speed is limited to 180kmph — like every other Volvo on sale. In terms of charging capabilities, the XC40 Recharge supports up to 150kW DC fast charging and can be juiced up to 80% in under 40 minutes.

The Volvo SC40 Recharge will not have any direct rivals in the Indian market. The upper tier of the electric SUV segment gets the Mercedes-EQ EQC, Audi e-tron and e-tron Sportback; BMW iX and the Jaguar i-pace. However, the upcoming Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 could be considered as rivals to the XC40 Recharge, albeit at a lower price.
