Volvo India Reveals Its Future Plans For India; Will Phase Out Diesel Engine & Focus On EVs And Petrol Cars | V3Cars

Volvo recently debuted the XC40 Recharge in India and confirmed its launch for October 2021. At the same event, the carmaker also outlined its future plans for India which is in line with its global aim of having a full-electric car lineup by 2030.

Along with the introduction of an EV in India, the carmaker plans to phase out diesel engines from its lineup. Currently, the XC60, S90 are the only cars in Volvo’s India lineup to be offered with a diesel engine only and the carmaker has already confirmed that the S90 and the XC60 will get a petrol powertrain later this year. With the engine update, Volvo is also expected to launch the facelifted model of both cars. While the S90 facelift made its global debut in February 2020, the facelifted XC60 was unveiled a few days back. 

The carmaker has not revealed the technical details of the S90 petrol and XC60 petrol. However, both these cars will get a 2.0-litre turbocharged or supercharged petrol engine. Globally, Volvo offers three petrol engine options: T4, T5 and T6. While all these trims get the same 2.0-litre petrol engine, it is offered in three different states of tune. Volvo already offers the T4 petrol engine in India. It is currently being offered on the XC40 and will be available on the upcoming S60 sedan as well. Pre-launch bookings for the sedan are already underway and it has an introductory price of Rs 45.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries of the 2021 S60 sedan will get underway in the coming few weeks. It will take on likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes Benz C-Class, Audi A4 and the Jaguar XE.
