Opinion — Volkswagen Virtus To Be More Expensive Than Skoda Slavia

Opinion — Volkswagen Virtus To Be More Expensive Than Skoda Slavia | V3Cars

Volkswagen India are gearing up to launch the Virtus sedan on June 9. Bookings for the Virtus are currently open and Volkswagen have also started displaying the sedan and their dealerships. Even though the Virtus and the Skoda Slavia are underpinned by the same platform and use the same powertrains, here is why we think that the Virtus will be priced higher than the equivalent variants of the Slavia.

It’s not very difficult to gauge the trend between the sister brands. The Volkswagen Taigun is more expensive than the Skoda Kushaq with a similar set of equipment. However, it is worth noting that both brands recently revised the prices of their respective SUVs. Along with the price hike, all the variants of the Taigun 1.0L turbo petrol gained an auto engine start/stop and tyre pressure monitoring system. Hence, we can say that the Volkswagen offering is more expensive thanks to the added equipment on offer. It is worth mentioning that we are not taking the recently-launched Kushaq Monte Carlo into account against the Taigun.

Now coming back to the case of the Virtus, the German family sedan is bound to be more expensive than its Czech sibling. Take its set of standard features for instance, the Virtus will offer features like LED headlights, touchscreen infotainment with app connect, 16-inch wheels and 8 speakers as standard. On the other hand, the Slavia doesn’t offer any of the aforementioned features as standard, save for the basic touchscreen infotainment system.

However, it is worth adding that the Slavia boasts multiple quirky touches under the Simply Clever programme, which includes luggage nets, a smartphone holder, ticket holder and reflective tape on all doors. The Slavia range is currently priced from Rs. 10.69 lakh to Rs. 17.79 lakh ex-showroom. We expect Volkswagen India to keep the introductory prices of the Virtus just a shade below Rs. 11 lakh for the base trim whereas its top variants are likely to coast a tad more than the top-spec Slavia.
