Volkswagen To Revive Iconic Scout Brand In The US With Electric SUV & Pick-up | V3Cars

Volkswagen are set to revive the iconic Scout brand in the US with an electric SUV and pick-up. The Scout SUV and pick-up concepts are expected to be revealed later this year while the production-spec models will hit the North American market by 2026.

During Volkswagen’s annual meeting, the company’s CEO, Mr. Herbert Diess, said, “We are reviving the American cult brand Scout. We will develop an electric pickup truck and an RUV in the US. We are establishing our own company for this purpose.”

The upcoming electric SUV and pick-up truck will be sold under the Scout sub-brand which is set for a revival in the US. As a result, both models will be designed and manufactured in the US. Reports suggest that the upcoming electric models won’t make use of the VW’s MEB platform. Instead, it will be based on an all-new platform that’s been designed for off-road, high-clearance vehicles.

Since Dieselgate, Volkswagen have shifted their focus on electric mobility. The brand’s MEB platform underpins a range of electric vehicles from the houses of Audi, Volkswagen, Skoda and Porsche. Closer to home, both Audi and Porsche offer electric vehicles such as the e-tron and Taycan respectively. Volkswagen India is likely to join the EV segment soon with the launch of the ID. Crozz electric SUV that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.
