Volkswagen India Commence Virtus Exports To Mexico | V3Cars

Volkswagen have begun exporting the made-in-India Virtus sedan to Mexico. The first batch of 3,000 Virtus sedans was shipped to Mexico from the Mumbai port. Volkswagen will export the Virtus to other emerging global markets as well.

Volkswagen’s latest offerings, the Taigun and Virtus, are based on the heavily-localised MQB-A0 IN platform. The carmaker plans to export the Taigun and Virtus to over 44 global countries, including South America. Central America, Africa, the Gulf Cooperation Council and more.

VW India commenced Taigun exports in February this year, and now Virtus has joined the list. Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, the entity that handles brands like Volkswagen, Skoda, Porsche, Lamborghini and Audi in India, launched their export program in 2011.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Piyush Arora, managing director of Skoda India stated, “We are marching aggressively on our path to growth, and the ramp-up of our exports is another significant stride in this direction. With this move, we are closer to realising our aim of making India an export hub for the VW Group globally, which is a significant pillar of our India strategy. The growth in our export numbers testifies to the success of the INDIA 2.0 programme. It also showcases India’s engineering expertise on a global stage. As a true Volkswagen, the Virtus embodies the same quality standards we adhere to globally, and we are delighted it will be driven in other countries soon. With this announcement, we have further strengthened our commitment to offering next-generation vehicles to and from India.”

Going forward, Volkswagen have confirmed the launch of the ID 4 electric crossover and are now testing the car for Indian conditions. You can read more about the upcoming ID 4 here. Their Czech sibling, Skoda, are also likely to launch the Enyaq iV electric crossover as it has also been spied on our roads. While we can not confirm Volkswagen’s future plans for India, the German carmaker will continue to offer fully-imported vehicles to keep their fans happy. In addition to that, Volkswagen are also working on a budget electric hatchback for the European markets that will hit the streets in 2025. This model could serve other markets like India and Brazil as well.
