Tiguan Facelift Will Be VW’s First Launch This Year | V3Cars

Volkswagen is all set to launch the facelifted Tiguan in India and it is expected to go on sale in May 2021. It will make a comeback since the pre-facelift Tiguan was discontinued due to the implementation of new BS6 emission norms in April 2020.

While the facelifted Tiguan gets cosmetic updates and various additional features, the most significant change comes under the hood as it will be offered with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine instead of the 2.0-litre diesel unit offered on the pre-facelift model.

The new 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine is the same unit that does duty on various VW group cars like the VW Tiguan Allspace, Skoda Superb facelift, Audi Q2 and the Audi A4 facelift. It makes 190PS and 320Nm mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. While the Tiguan Allspace comes with a 4Motion 4WD system, the 5-seater Tiguan is expected to available in the 2WD configuration only.

In terms of design, the new Tiguan features a sleeker triple slat grille flanked by updated new LED headlamps which are now slimmer. It also gets a new sporty and aggressive-looking front bumper. The side and rear profiles remain largely unchanged with mild updates in the form of a new set of alloys, mildly updated tail lamps and rear bumper and a new spaced ‘Tiguan’ lettering on the tailgate.

Inside the cabin, while the layout remains unchanged it gets a new steering wheel. Features on offer include a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and three-zone climate control. Safety features on offer include 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, hill launch assist and hill descent control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Volkswagen is expected to slot the Tiguan above T-ROC in its SUV lineup. Prices are expected to range from Rs 28 lakh to Rs 32 lakh. It will take on likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and the Citroen C5 Aircross.
