Tata Safari With A Green Registration Plate Spied | V3Cars
The Tata Safari only comes with the option of a 2.0L turbo-diesel engine. While we have heard rumours that Tata is working on a 1.5L turbo-petrol engine for the Safari, it is yet to see the light of day. Strangely, amidst all this, a Safari with a green registration plate was spied somewhere in Jodhpur. While green registration plates are reserved for electric cars or EVs, here’s why we think the Safari pictured here isn’t an all-electric vehicle.
All the cars on test by the car manufacturer bear a red number plate, no matter if it is an ICE or EV. Hence, it is clear that the car was not undergoing any tests. The Safari spied was wearing a green plate with white font. The green plate signifies that it should be an EV and the white font means it is privately owned. But, Tata neither officially announced any Safari EV, nor have they launched it. This makes it pretty clear that the car left the showroom with a diesel engine under the hood.

We think that the owner could have gone for an electric conversion with their Safari. After all, the government is promoting electric vehicles, including electric conversions. As there are no 7-seater EVs available in the market as of now, one can only convert an ICE 7-seater to EV. This could have been an ideal solution for the owner and hence, they went for it. As of now, it is not known which company made the conversion kit.
Another possibility is that it could be a mere mistake by the RTO. Recently, we also saw a Hyundai Santro with a green registration plate. All this could be just a mistake from the registration office. Although highly unlikely, the owner could have persuaded the concerned officer to provide them the green number plate, as it is not so mainstream and stands out in the traffic.

Speaking of the Safari diesel, it gets a 2.0L turbo-diesel engine which produces 170PS of power and 350Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic. The 2022 Safari is priced from Rs. 15.25 lakh to Rs. 23.46 lakh (ex-showroom).
