Tata Nexon CNG Spied With Emission Testing Equipment — Launch Soon? | V3Cars
Tata Motors are testing the Nexon CNG for a long time now. A few new spy shots of the Nexon CNG recently surfaced online, hinting at imminent launch. At the launch of the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG, Tata Motors confirmed that they are actively developing CNG versions of the Nexon, Altroz and Punch. While the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG are powered by a 1.2L naturally-aspirated engine, the Nexon CNG will be powered by the 1.2L turbo engine.
Currently, the Nexon’s 1.2L turbo petrol engine produces 120PS of power at 5500rpm and 170Nm of torque between 1750rpm and 4000rpm. It comes with a 6-speed manual and AMT transmission. With the CNG powertrain, we expect a slight dip in the power and torque figures. In addition to that, Tata Motors are likely to offer the Nexon CNG with the 6-speed manual transmission to keep costs in check. Tata could also become the first mover in the CNG segment to offer an automatic transmission option with the Nexon CNG.

While all the CNG options in the market currently make use of normal petrol engines, the Nexon CNG will come with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine. Hence, we expect it to deliver satisfactory performance with great mid-range torque.
Like the Tiago and Tigor CNG, Tata Motors are likely to offer the Nexon CNG in top variants as well. In the top-spec variants, the Nexon offers features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, ventilated front seats, an air purifier, electric sunroof and drive modes.

Speaking of its rivals, the Nexon CNG will rival the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG and Kia Sonet CNG. While the Brezza CNG will come with the 1.5L normal petrol engine, the Kia Sonet CNG is likely to offer the 1.0L turbo petrol engine. Kia India are also likely to offer the Sonet CNG in the range-topping variants, as earlier revealed by a spy shot.
