Tata Register Frest Trademark - Is It The Curvv ICE, Creta Rival?

Tata Frest Trademark Registered - Could Be Curvv ICE, Creta Rival | V3Cars

Tata Motors recently registered the Frest trademark with Intellectual Property India. Rumours suggest that this could be the name for their upcoming Curvv-based C-segment SUV with petrol and diesel engine options. If this turns out to be true, then it’ll go up against the Hyundai Creta and other C-segment SUVs like Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, among others.

Curvv

MG followed a similar approach with their Astor and ZS EV. While both of these cars use the same frame and similar design, they carry different names. In the Nexon, Tata took a different route and called the electric and petrol/diesel versions Nexon.

About Curvv ICE (Internal Combustion Engine)

After first revealing the Curvv EV, Tata Motors showcased its petrol/diesel engine version at the Auto Expo 2023. Tata Motors officials also confirmed that the Curvv ICE will get their new 1.2L turbo petrol engine. In the Curvv/Frest, it could make 125PS of power and 190Nm of torque. In the upcoming next-gen Nexon, it could offer a lower 190Nm of torque.

Tata Motors are also working on the larger 1.5L turbo petrol engine, which will power the Safari and Harrier in the future. This engine will make around 170PS of power and 280Nm of torque. This engine could also power the higher-end variants of the Tata Frest/Curvv ICE and offer class-leading performance figures.

With such performance figures, we shouldn’t expect them to offer great real-world fuel efficiency but considering the torque output, the mileage should remain acceptable.

Besides the 1.2L turbo petrol engine, the Frest will most likely also offer a 1.5L turbo diesel engine, which is currently available in the Nexon and Altroz. Tata have confirmed that they are not ditching the diesel engine yet as they see enough demand. In fact, the Safari and Harrier are maintaining their high sales numbers even though they don't get a petrol engine.

In terms of design, the Curvv or Frest will most likely become the first coupe SUV in its class. Moreover, it will also become the most affordable SUV with a coupe design. If it takes off, then we can expect to see other manufacturers integrating a sloping roofline in their SUVs in coming years.
