Tata Concept Curvv Could Get 4-Wheel-Drive If There Is Enough Demand

Tata Concept Curvv Could Get 4-Wheel-Drive If There Is Enough Demand | V3Cars

Tata Motors took the wraps off the Concept Curvv, an all-electric coupe SUV, on April 6. At the event, Tata said the Curvv concept SUV is based on an all-new, ultra modular platform that is capable of housing multiple motor and drivetrain configurations. The modular platform opens up the possibility for a 4-wheel-drive drivetrain for the production version of the Concept Curvv eSUV. However, Tata is likely to offer this combination only if there’s enough demand for it.

When Tata launches the production version of the Concept Curvv in 2 years’ time, it will it between the Nexon and the Harrier SUVs. Currently, there are no SUV priced under Rs. 20 lakh that offer the option of a 4-wheel-drivetrain. However, rumours suggest that Jeep could launch a sub-compact SUV with 4-wheel-drive in the near future.

At the unveiling event, Tata Motors revealed that the Concept Curvv will initially be sold with an electric drivetrain while internal combustion engine options will be added later. Thanks to the advanced and modular platform of the Curvv, it’s safe to assume that the same platform will also underpin the next-gen Nexon. The next-gen Nexon is expected to feature an evolution of the current design and continue to rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue, among others. Meanwhile, the production-spec version of the Curvv concept is expected to be a more stylish offering with a low, coupe-like roofline.

Although Tata Motors haven’t announced any launch timeline for the Concept Curvv yet, the carmaker aims to launch the SUV within the next two years. Hence, we can expect the Concept Curvv to hit production in 2024, followed by the launch of several variants with internal combustion engines.
