Skoda Rapid Successor Spied Testing | V3Cars
Skoda has already confirmed that the Rapid successor will go on sale in India by the end of this year. And while the launch is still months away, the sedan has been spotted testing. Although the test mule was heavily camouflaged, it gave us a fair idea of how the upcoming sedan will look.
Upfront, it looks unmistakenly Skoda with the vertically slatted butterfly grille enclosed in what looks like a thick chrome surround. It is flanked by triple barrel headlamps. While the headlamps on the test mule look like multi-reflector units, Skoda should offer LED projectors on the final car, at least on the higher variants. From what was visible of the front bumper, it features a large central air dam and round fog lamps.
Skoda had earlier confirmed that the new compact sedan will be bigger than the Rapid and the extra length is visible on the test mule when seen from the side. This extra length should free up more space for the rear occupants. Coming to the back, while it was heavily camouflaged, it looks similar to other Skoda sedans like the Superb and the upcoming Octavia. It seems like the rear profile incorporates slim tail lamps flowing into the boot lid flanking the number plate housing.
The latest spy shots do not reveal anything about the interior of the new sedan but expect it to be in line with other modern Skoda cars with a free-standing display in the centre and a multi-layered dashboard.
Features on offer should include a digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, sunroof, connected car tech, upto 6 airbags, LED headlamps, auto AC with rear AC vents, auto-dimming IRVM, air purifier, parking camera, electronic stability program, hill launch assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The Rapid successor will not only borrow the MQB A0 IN platform from the Kushaq but will borrow its engines as well. In the lower variants, it is expected to get the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine making 115PS and 175Nm mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission. On the higher variants, expect it to get the 1.5-litre TSI turbo engine making 150PS and 250Nm mated to a 6-speed MT and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
With the launch scheduled for the end of 2021, Skoda has confirmed that the deliveries of the new sedan will start from early 2022. Prices are expected to range from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. It will take on likes of the Honda City (both 4th and 5th gen models), Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz and upcoming sedans like the next-gen Vento and the Toyota branded Maruti Ciaz.
