Skoda Octavia Discontinued – Not Likely To Make A Comeback

Skoda Octavia Delisted From India Website — Discontinued? | V3Cars

Skoda have removed the Octavia from their official India website, suggesting that the D1-segment sedan will not receive updates for BS6 Phase 2 emission compliance. Is this the end of the Skoda Octavia in India? Read on to find out

Has Skoda Discontinued The Octavia In India?

Skoda launched the 4th-gen Octavia in India in 2021 and have not updated the D1-segment sedan since its launch. Now, Skoda have delisted the Octavia from their India website, suggesting that the brand isn’t keen on selling the sedan in the BS6 Phase 2 era, Part of the reason for Skoda discontinuing the Octavia could be its sluggish sales over the last couple of months. Skoda India only sold 100 and 82 units of the Octavia in January and February 2023, respectively.

The Octavia’s average sales figure for the last 6 months was 110 units, which is less than what the Superb (132 units avg.) achieved in the same timeframe. While the earlier generations of the Octavia managed a good price gap from the Superb, the 2021 Octavia (Rs. 27.35 lakh - Rs. 30.45 lakh) was priced in close proximity to the Superb (Rs. 34.19 lakh - Rs. 37.29 lakh), which led to the larger, more feature-packed Superb cannibalising the sales of the Octavia.

Skoda Superb Likely To Face The Axe As Well

Even though the Superb’s average sales for the last 6 months was better than the Octavia’s, the sales of the Superb hover in the 2 digit figures most months. Hence, Skoda are likely to discontinue the Superb as well. While the Octavia was delisted, the Superb is still listed on the brand’s website.

What’s The Skoda Kodiaq’s Fate In India?

The Skoda Kodiaq shares the 2.0L turbo petrol engine with the Octavia and Superb, albeit with an all-wheel drivetrain. This begs the question if Skoda will even update this engine for the new emission norms. However, with the Kodiaq posting better sales figures than the Octavia and Superb, we expect Skoda to update their flagship SUV to meet the new emission norms. The same engine also powers the Volkswagen Tiguan and Audi Q3 in India, thus, making the investment to update the engine feasible for the Skoda-VW group.

Skoda Octavia RS Launch Incoming?

While Skoda haven’t revealed any plans to relaunch the Octavia in India at a later date, the carmaker could bring their performance-centric Octavia RS to our shores soon. The new Octavia RS uses a 1.4L turbo petrol engine and electric motors and offers a combined power and torque output of 245PS and 400Nm, respectively. The Octavia RS is likely to launch in India via the CBU route and could boast an eye-watering price tag like the last Octavia RS. Furthermore, Skoda are also planning a new range of products for the Indian market after the success of the ‘India 2.0’ growth strategy.
