September 2022 Cars Sales Analysis - SUV YoY, MoM Change, 6-Month Trend | V3Cars

In this September 2022 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all SUVs in India. We’ll also share our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales, where applicable. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all SUVs for the last 6 months will give you an idea about their 6-month sales trend.

SUV Segment September 2022 Car Sales - YoY Change

  • Hyundai was the top-selling brand for SUV body-style cars in September 2021, with 18,186 units sold from the carmaker. Kia was the second biggest SUV seller with 14,037 units sold in the same month.
  • However, a year later, Mahindra has emerged as the biggest SUV maker with 34,010 units sold in September 2022, as compared to just 12,751 units in September of 2021. Comparing it to the growth of previous topper Hyundai, which saw a growth of 8,887 units or 49%, Mahindra saw a growth of 21,259 units or over 160%.
  • Among the SUVs, the Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon were the top 2 performers in September. They were followed by the Hyundai Creta and Tata Punch in terms of volume.
  • 5 SUVs made it into the 5-figure club in August - Nexon, Punch, Creta, Venue and Brezza. In September, they were joined by Kia Seltos, with 11,000 units dispatched in that month.
  • In terms of YoY change, the Brezza posted a 724%+ improvement and was the clear top gainer.
  • Mahindra’s XUV700 and Bolero reported a similar growth of around 350% and were the second best gainers after Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
  • Most mass-market cars performed well and saw a YoY growth in sales except Hector/Hector Plus twins, which saw a decline of 23% in September 2022 YoY comparison analysis.
  • Among the notable top losers were the Nissan Kicks with a 71% decline, Citroen C5 Aircross, Urban Cruiser and Compass with a decline in the range of 50-60%.
  • Renault Duster and Volkswagen T-Roc were still in production in September 2021 but were discontinued in the subsequent months.
  • Kia did not dispatch a single unit of the EV6 in September
