Report: Renault Halts Production Of Duster

Report: Renault Halts Production Of Duster | V3Cars

According to a recent report from Economic Times, Renault has stopped the production of the current generation Duster. It could be soon discontinued altogether.

Renault Duster

The Duster has been around for almost a decade and it was first introduced in 2012. Since then, Renault has given it mild updates to keep pace with the competition. However, it’s starting to show its age and having trouble challenging the new rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq.

Duster

The Duster established the Renault brand in India, and it remained the carmaker’s bestseller for the better part of the last decade. Therefore, Renault is unlikely to discontinue the popular and recognisable Duster brand. Moreover, rumours suggest that Renault may soon introduce the next-generation Duster, which sells under the Dacia umbrella in European countries.

The next-gen Duster is available with the following engine options:

  • 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with 90PS of power and 160Nm of torque
  • 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine with 130PS of power and 240Nm of torque
  • 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine with 150PS of power and 250Nm of torque
  • 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine with 115PS of power and 260Nm of torque

The 1.5-litre diesel engine is also available with an optional all-wheel drive for safe driving in snowy conditions in Europe. Since Renault doesn’t sell the 1.5-litre diesel engine in India, this version is not likely to go on sale in our country.

Duster

The Duster once consistently sold in 4-digits every month while now, the sales have dropped to low, 3-digits and occasionally even dipping to double digits. The updated Duster could help revive the sales for the carmaker. Meanwhile, Renault is making room at the factory to ramp up the production of the Triber and the Kiger. Both of these cars are selling in decent numbers as they offer tremendous value for money.
