Renault and Nissan recently reworked their alliance and laid out their future plans for the Indian market. Renault And Nissan Confirm 6 New Cars For India

Renault And Nissan To Launch 4 C-Segment SUVs

Renault and Nissan will heavily localise their CMF-B platform for the Indian market. The CMF-B platform will underpin a total of 4 C-segment SUVs — 2 from both the carmakers. While the platform, engines and transmission are likely to be shared between both brands, the SUVs from either carmakers will feature unique designs to differentiate themselves from each other. A prime example of uniquely designed SUVs that share a common platform are the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.

The first SUV from Renault-Nissan’s revised plan for India is likely to be the next-gen Renault Duster. The next-gen Duster is currently under development and it will go up against other C-segment SUVs, such as the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Volkswagen Taigun. Even though details about the upcoming SUVs from both brands are scarce, they are likely to share the same platform and powertrains but offer unique exterior and interior design.

Furthermore, Renault could also launch the Arkana coupe SUV in India built on the localised CMF-B platform. Nissan could also have their own derivative based on the CMF-B platform with unique styling, inspired by bigger Nissan SUVs. Nissan have also confirmed a family MPV for the Indian market based on the Renault Kiger’s platform.

Two New Small EVs Incoming

Apart from the 4 C-segment SUVs, Renault and Nissan have also confirmed small electric vehicles for the Indian market. The 2 upcoming EVs will be the first electric offerings from both carmakers in India and they will share the same CMFA-EV platform. While Renault are likely to launch the Kwid Electric, also known in other markets as City K-ZE, Nissan could offer a unique bodystyle based on the same platform as Renault’s EV. These models will fall in the A-segment and we can expect a competitive pricing.
