“No Current Plans For Further Imports Of Karoq”- Skoda | V3Cars
Zac Hollis, Director - ŠKODA AUTO India, replying to a user on Twitter has confirmed that the brand has no current plans of bringing back the Karoq SUV in India. Skoda launched the Karoq in May 2020. It was brought in as a CBU import and only 1000 units of the SUV were allotted to India. The Karoq was sold out by the end of 2020 and Skoda removed it from its website in January 2021.
While it was speculated that Skoda will soon relaunch the Karoq in India as Volkswagen did with the T-ROC, the carmaker has decided to not bring back the SUV.
The Karoq was a mid-size SUV that competed with the likes of the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Hyundai Tucson and would have competed with the Citroen C5 Aircross and the upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan. It was offered in a single fully-loaded variant with a price tag of Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom India).
Under the hood, the Karoq was powered by a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engine that makes 150PS and 250Nm paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. It is the same engine that will power the higher variants of the Kushaq and the upcoming Rapid replacement.
The Karoq was loaded on the features front as well. It was equipped with 9 airbags, a parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, hill launch assist and electronic stability control. Other features on offer were a panoramic sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, auto LED headlamps, dual-zone AC, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, 12-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and heated ORVMs.
After pulling the plug on the Karoq, Skoda is now gearing up to launch the fourth-gen Octavia in India and it is expected to go on sale on 10 June 2021. It will be followed by the launch of Kushaq in June 2021 itself. Skoda has also confirmed that it will launch the petrol-only Kodiaq facelift by September 2021 and it will be followed by the debut of the Rapid-replacement which is expected to go on sale in early 2022. Skoda is likely to name the next-gen sedan as the Slavia.
