Nissan Kicks Zero Production In Last 3 Months — Discontinued?

Nissan Kicks Discontinued? — Zero Units Produced In Last 3 Months | V3Cars

Nissan India launched the Kicks C-segment SUV in January 2019. Since its launch, it has failed to capture the market like Nissan’s previous C-segment SUV, the Terrano, did. In the last 3 months, Nissan did not sell a single unit of the Kicks SUV. So has Nissan India discontinued the Kicks SUV> Read on to find the answer.

Has Nissan Discontinued The Kicks SUV?

If you look at the Nissan Kicks’ sales chart for 2022, you will find that Nissan did not sell even 500 units of the Kicks in any month last year. Its sales hovered around the 2 digit mark for most of 2022. Understandably, Nissan did not produce a single unit of the Kicks SUV in December last year, or January and February this year.

Will The Nissan Kicks Get Updates For BS6 Phase-2 Emission Norms?

Nissan offer the Kicks SUV with 2 engine options — a 1.5L normal petrol and a 1.3L turbo petrol engine. Both engines were also offered with the Renault Duster but Renault pulled the plug on the Duster in early 2022. Since no other cars from Renault or Nissan currently use the 1.5L normal petrol or 1.3L turbo petrol, Nissan are unlikely to invest and update these engines for the Kicks. Given the poor sales performance of the Kicks, we expect Nissan to shut down production of the Kicks soon, if they haven’t already.

Nissan India’s Future Plans

Nissan brought the Kicks to our shores to spearhead the carmaker’s future in India but it failed to compete with the segment-leader — the Hyundai Creta. While the Nissan Magnite has been performing consistently well, Nissan have laid out their future plans for the Indian market. Nissan have confirmed plans to launch a Renault Triber-based 3-row MPV, a C-segment SUV and a small electric vehicle as well. These new products will start rolling out from 2026 onwards and we expect the C-segment SUV to lead the pack.
