Next-Gen Verna Could Debut Hyundai’s 1.5L Turbo Petrol Engine | V3Cars
Hyundai will launch the next-gen Verna in India this year and it has been spotted on our roads multiple times. While the next-gen Verna is likely to continue with the same set of engine options as the current model, Hyundai could also offer a more performance oriented engine for enthusiasts.
Next-Gen Verna Could Get 1.5L Turbo Petrol Engine
The Verna goes up against C-segment sedans like the Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus. Both the Slavia and Virtus come with a choice of 2 petrol engines — 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo petrol. While the 1.0L turbo petrol engine does the job for most buyers, the 1.5L turbo petrol engine is targeted at enthusiasts. Hyundai may also want to grab a share of this niche segment of buyers with the Verna 1.5L turbo.

Hyundai already offer this 1.5L turbo petrol engine in their global models like the i30 hatchback. This engine produces 159PS of power at 5500rpm and 253Nm of torque between 1500rpm and 3500rpm. It comes with the option of a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It also incorporates a 48V mild-hybrid system to lower emissions and boost fuel efficiency.
The 1.5L turbo petrol engine is also likely to replace the 1.4L turbo petrol engine in a number of Hyundai group cars. Currently, the 1.4L turbo petrol engine powers the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Kia Carens. All the 3 Hyundai group cars are likely to get the new 1.5L turbo petrol engine with more performance and better fuel efficiency as well.

Verna N Line Could Be In The Works
Currently, no carmaker offers an affordable sedan with a sporty intent. The Verna could be India’s first affordable sedan to offer factory-tuned performance additions like stiffened suspension, recalibrated steering and a louder exhaust. After the launch of the i20 N Line and Venue N Line, the Verna N Line could be the 3 N Line offering in India.
