Next-gen Skoda Octavia RS Confirmed For India

Next-gen Skoda Octavia RS Confirmed For India | V3Cars

Skoda is all set to launch the fourth-gen Octavia in India on 10 June 2021. And while the launch is just a few days away, the carmaker has confirmed that it also plans to launch the sportier Octavia RS in India but at a later stage. It will continue to be a CBU import as the previous-gen Octavia RS 245 which is on sale in the country. Skoda also used to sell the 230PS previous-gen Octavia RS in India but it was discounted in November 2018.

Skoda Octavia RS

Skoda unveiled the new Octavia RS last year. It was offered with a set of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. Where the diesel engine makes 200PS and 400Nm mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, the petrol engine is good for 245PS and 370Nm torque paired to either a 6-speed MT or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The new Octavia RS is offered with a 4X4 drivetrain as well but with the diesel engine only.

The India-spec Octavia RS is expected to get the 2.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine (245PS/370Nm) only mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. It is the same engine-transmission combination that is being offered on the Octavia RS 245, currently on sale in India. For reference, the standard Octavia will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine making 190PS and 320Nm paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The Octavia RS also gets some minor design updates to set itself apart from the standard Octavia. It gets a more aggressive front bumper with larger air vents, a blacked-out front grille, larger alloy wheels, a rear trunk spoiler and a redesigned rear bumper with a twin exhaust setup.

Similarly, on the inside, while the layout remains similar to the standard Octavia, it gets an all-black interior with red stitching instead of the dual-tone beige-black setup seen on the standard sedan. It also gets an RS-specific 3-spoke steering wheel replacing the 2-spoke unit.

Skoda is expected to launch the fourth-gen Octavia RS in India by 2023. Expect it to be priced substantially more than the current RS 245 which retails at Rs 36 lakh. The standard Octavia, on the other hand, is likely to be priced from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.
