Jeep’s H6 SUV Spied In India For The First Time | V3Cars

Jeep’s upcoming H6 SUV has been spied in India for the first time. While the test mule was heavily camouflaged revealing not much about the upcoming SUV, its overall silhouette gave away its identity. Although there is no official confirmation, the 7-seater SUV (codename H6) is likely to be sold as the Grand Commander in the global market and the Grand Commander has already been spied in its entirety.

In terms of design, the Grand Commander looks similar to the Compass facelift which debuted in India earlier this year. Like the Compass, it gets a wider iteration of the 7-slat grille with chrome inserts flanked by sleek rectangular headlamps. The bumper gets a large central air dam with squared-off fog lamp housing with LED DRLs.

On the side, it gets squared-off wheel arches like the Compass. However, the Grand Commander gets a completely redesigned rear end. It features a huge rear windscreen sitting at the top of the connected tail lamps at the back. That said, while the Grand Commander looks quite similar to the Compass, it has a more upright and boxy stance when compared to the Compass.

While there no spy shots available revealing the interior of the Grand Commander but expect it to look similar to the Compass SUV with a huge freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, connected AC vents, panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, multi-zone AC, electronic parking brake, 360-degree camera and ventilated front seats. However, it might get some exclusive elements like a set of captain seats in the second row resulting in a 6-seater configuration.

Under the hood, the H6 is expected to get the same 2.0-litre diesel engine as the Compass but in a higher state of tune. Producing around 200PS against the Compass’ output of 170PS and 350Nm. Transmission options are expected to include a 6-speed MT and a 9-speed automatic. While the Compass is offered with a 163PS 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine, Jeep may not offer it with the larger SUV.

Jeep is expected to debut the 7-seater SUV by the end of this followed by its launch in early 2022. Jeep will not call the H6 SUV, the Grand Commander, in India as Mahindra owns the trademark for the name. Rumours suggest that Jeep might name the 7-seater SUV ‘Patriot’ as the carmaker already owns the trademark for the name. Jeep might also choose to give the H6 SUV a completely new name.

The new Jeep SUV will take on the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4, Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace and the Skoda Kodiaq facelift
