Next-Gen 2022 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Spied Testing In Full Camouflage | V3Cars

Maruti Suzuki are now testing the 2022 Vitara Brezza on Indian roads. The spy shots of the front and rear end of the test car recently surfaced online. Though the test mule is covered in heavy camouflage, some of the exterior highlights are visible.

The car could get the usual updates like:

  • a new grille

  • redesigned front and rear bumpers

  • new head and tail lamp clusters

  • new alloy wheel design

The test car also has a shark fin antenna towards the rear with roof rails, which is not available in the current motel. Overall profile of the Brezza is already very SUV-ish with a fairly boxy bonnet, flat roof and a horizontal window line. 2022 is around the corner already and the Brezza recently got a mid-life refresh in early 2020. However, the car is losing market share to fresh competition such as the Venue, Seltos, Magnite, Kiger, Nexon and even the smaller Punch. The 2022 Brezza could give the Brezza a new lease of life with a redesign and a few extra features.

The Brezza also feels a lot of heat in the powertrain option department. It only has a 1.5L normal petrol engine with a 5-speed manual transmission. With the 4-speed automatic, it gets mild hybrid tech as well. None of it sounds exciting as the competition is offering at least 2 engine options in most of their sub-4m SUVs.

The Venue, Sonet, XUV300 and Nexon offer a 6-speed manual transmission, while the Brezza is stuck with 5. All sub-4m SUVs except the Tata Punch, Honda WR-V and the Brezza also offer a turbo petrol engine option. Turbo petrol engines are starting to gain mass acceptance among buyers for their excellent drivability, performance and efficiency. The Kiger and Magnite have a CVT while the Sonet and Venue offer a 7-speed DCT. The Brezza, meanwhile, chugs align with a power-sapping 4-speed automatic with the inefficient and vintage torque converter technology. The Sonet, Venue, XUV300 and Nexon also have a 1.5L turbo diesel in their portfolio, which is not available with the Brezza.

We hope Maruti Suzuki brings back the 1.0L turbo petrol engine, which was once available with the short-lived Baleno RS. it’ll also give the carmaker a tax advantage to price the Brezza more attractively. The prices for the current Brezza start from Rs. 7.62 lakh and go up to Rs. 11.11 lakh (ex-showroom).

Rumours suggest that Maruti Suzuki are also working on bringing a CNG version of the Brezza. Here’s how the Brezza CNG would stack up against other CNG cars:
