MG Hector, Hector Plus DCT Discontinued - Prices Hiked

MG Hector, Hector Plus DCT Discontinued - Prices Hiked | V3Cars

MG Motor India recently dropped the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission from the Hector and Hector Plus petrol powertrain. The D-segment SUVs from MG were the only ones with the DCT automatic. The two cars will continue with the CVT automatic, which they had introduced about a year ago and it cost the same as the DCT. Thus, for a year or so, customers had the choice to pick the automatic transmission of their choice with the Hector and Hector Plus petrol. It looks like the demand for CVT was stronger than that of the DCT. MG no longer have a DCT automatic in their India portfolio as the Astor gets CVT and torque converter automatic while the Gloster only gets a torque converter. The CVT is available in 3 trim levels as opposed to the now-discontinued DCT, which was available in 2 variants.

Besides the CVT automatic, this 1.5L turbo petrol engine in the Hector and Hector Plus is also available with the good-old 6-speed manual transmission. Just like before, the mild-hybrid variants are exclusively available with the 6-speed manual transmission. MG have changed the prices from January 2022 onwards. MG Hector CVT range starts from Rs 16.2 lakh and goes to Rs 19.33 lakh ex-showroom. MG Hector Plus CVT range starts from Rs 18.45 lakh and goes to Rs 20.0 lakh ex-showroom.

The two D-segment SUVs are still carrying on without a diesel-automatic transmission combination despite increasing competition from Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Harrier/Safari twins. Besides these two rivals from Mahindra and Tata, the other 3-row cars like the Hyundai Alcazar and Kia Carens also offer an automatic transmission with the diesel engine.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors are working on adding a 1.5L turbo petrol engine to the portfolio to mark their presence in the petrol SUV class.
