When MG revealed the first official images of the new Comet EV, they revealed some of the colour options for the upcoming small electric vehicle. However, the colour black and neon green were not part of the palette. Nevertheless, our exclusive spy shot shows the Comet EV sporting a neon green paint option and we expect it to be part of the Comet EV colour options at launch. Our images also reveal a generous use of chrome around the side, which include the ORVMs, doors and D-pillars.

The MG Comet EV offers a modern design, featuring LED headlights and taillights, in a compact footprint. Expected to measure under 3 metres, the Comet EV is even smaller than the Tata Nano. It will offer a 3 door bodystyle with space to seat 4 passengers, including the driver. To attract younger buyers, MG are likely to pack the Comet EV with new-age features, which are listed below.

MG Comet EV Interiors Officially Teased

The MG Comet EV will offer a twin connected screen layout, similar to the one seen in the latest Mercedes-Benz cars. A video released by MG earlier this month also revealed the design of the Comet EV’s 2-spoke steering wheel. The steering wheel gets round controls for multimedia, which take inspiration from the iconic iPod control dial.

In terms of features, the Comet EV could offer a reverse parking camera, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, electronic parking brake with auto hold, rotary gear selector, LED headlights, LED taillights, electronically-adjustable outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs) and front power windows.

MG Comet EV Expected Powertrain Details

MG are yet to reveal the powertrain details of the Comet EV. However, the Comet EV is sold as the Wuling Air EV in the Chinese market and the latter’s powertrain details are available in the public domain. The Wuling Air EV offers 2 battery pack options — 17.3kWh and 26.7kWh – in international markets. The 17.3kWh battery pack offers a claimed range of up to 200km on a single charge, while the 26.7kWh battery pack offers a range of 300km. Both variants come with a 40PS electric motor. We are yet to learn whether MG will offer one of the 2 mentioned battery packs or offer a new battery pack for our market.

MG Comet EV Expected Launch Timeline

MG Motor India are likely to launch the Comet EV in the first week of May 2023. The carmaker is likely to reveal the specifications and features of the Comet EV and commence bookings soon. The Comet EV is likely to rival other affordable electric vehicles, such as the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3. For a competitive advantage against its rivals, MG could give the Comet EV a starting price of under Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s rivals, the Tiago EV and Citroen eC3 are priced at Rs. 8.99 lakh - 11.99 lakh and Rs. 11.50 lakh - 12.76 lakh, respectively.
