The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is 180mm longer and 7mm taller than the regular S-Class while having the same height. The wheelbase, as we stated earlier is 80mm longer, hence offering more leg space for the rear passengers.

On the powertrain front, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class comes with two engine options globally - a 4.0L turbo petrol V8 with 503PS and 700Nm of torque and a 6.0L turbo petrol V12 with 612PS and 900Nm of torque. Both the S580 and S680 come with a 9-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive as standard. While there's a difference of over 100PS and 200Nm between the two powertrains, the S580 isn't too far behind the S680 in the 0-100kmph sprint. The former does it in 4.8 seconds, only 0.3 seconds slower than the latter.

In India, Mercedes-Benz offer the S-Class with two engine options - a 3.0L turbo inline-6 petrol and a 3.0L turbo inline-6 diesel. The former produces 367PS and 500Nm of torque and the latter dishes out 286PS and 600Nm of torque. Those seeking more bragging rights will soon have the option of the Maybach S-Class, as Mercedes-Benz do not offer V8 options with the regular S-Class in India. Mercedes-Maybach S-Class also offers multiple luxury features over the S-Class like rear captain seats, exclusive ambient lighting colour shades, rear-wheel steering, electric open/close for rear doors, added massage options for rear seats, active noise cancellation, Burmester 4D sound, and refrigerator for rear passengers.

While the S680 would come via the CBU route, we expect Mercedes-Benz to locally assemble the S580 at their Chakan plant. With all the luxuries and a more powerful engine, expect the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class range to start from Rs 2.2 Crore ex-showroom. Mercedes-Maybach S-Class will take on the likes of the Rolls Royce Ghost and Bentley Flying Spur. Mercedes-Benz currently offer the S-Class in two variants - S350d at Rs 1.57 Crore and S450 at Rs 1.61 Crore ex-showroom.
