Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 SUV Launched At Rs 2.43 crore | V3Cars
Mercedes has launched its flagship SUV, the Maybach GLS 600, at a starting price of Rs 2.43 crore (ex-showroom India). It is the second Mercedes Maybach offering in India after the previous-gen Maybach S-Class which starts at Rs 2.23 crore (ex-showroom India).
With the given price tag, the Maybach GLS 600 attracts a premium of Rs 1.39 crore over the standard GLS variants. For this premium, you get a slightly updated exterior, more premium interior, additional features and a more powerful petrol engine.
Under the hood, the GLS 600 will be powered is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine that makes 558PS and 730Nm mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission working with a 4MATIC 4WD system. It also gets a 48-volt system EQ Boost mild-hybrid system that offers an additional 21 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque.
The standard GLS, on the other hand, is offered with two engine options. The GLS 400d 4MATIC is powered by a 3.0-litre diesel engine making 330PS and 700Nm while the GLS 450 4MATIC gets a 3.0-litre turbo petrol engine making 367PS and 500Nm. Both the engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and a 4MATIC 4WD system. While both the variants of the standard GLS has a 0-100kmph time of around 6 seconds, the GLS 600 can go from 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds.
In terms of design, the GLS 600 looks largely similar to the standard GLS but with some minor updates to make it look more premium. Upfront, it gets a new vertically slatted chrome grille with Maybach badging. The front bumper is also redesigned with a chrome mesh running across its width. On the side, it gets a Maybach badge on the C-pillar and new bigger alloy wheels. While the standard GLS is offered with 21-inch alloys, the GLS 600 is available with both 22-and 23-inch wheels. The only visible change at the back comes with a redesigned bumper which features repositioned reflectors wrapped in a chrome strip running across the width. It also gets a flashier chrome rear skid plate.
While the standard GLS is offered with monotone colour options only, the Maybach GLS is also offered with dual-tone colour options.
Like the exterior, the interior of the GLS 600 also looks similar to the standard GLS but looks more premium as it is wrapped in more opulent materials like Nappa leather on the dashboard. The most noticeable change comes at the back as the Maybach GLS is offered in 4-and 5-seater variants, while the standard GLS is offered in 6-and 7-seater options. With the removal of the third row of seats, the second row has been moved back in order to make more room. Mercedes also says that the cabin sound insulation is improved over the regular GLS.
As expected, the GLS 600 is loaded on the features front. It gets four-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, adaptive air suspension, heated and ventilated front and rear seats with memory function, massaging seats front and rear, the chauffeur package to adjust the co-driver seat from the rear, a rear-seat tablet to control in-car functions, 360-degree camera, Burmester sound system, 8 airbags, ABS, ESP, lane keep assist, blind-spot assist, active brake and steering assist and tyre pressure monitoring.
